Question Advantages Of Shutting Down

Hey, Got a question. Is there an advantage to leaving your computer on all the time. I have some friends that leave their computers on all the time, I mean NEVER shut them down. Doesn't Shutting down refresh your memory and system resources?

Hi Burnt Offering,

Those of us that run SETI, run their machines 24/7 on SETI.

I have two PC's myself, and I never turn them off.

The OS has the ability to refresh itself and memory also.

There also are progs that will automatically do it for you, if you prefer to go that route. I use RamBooster, which will refresh memory settings from every two seconds, and up.

I reboot for image/backup purposes, but that is about it.

Take care...........

I heard that turning your computers off will save electricity and espeically in the summer heat of Texas it's quiet a nice practice

Hi Roy,

Yes, turning off the PC will conserve electricity and the heat is a factor everywhere.

BUT, until the temps get scorching, most all of us will be running SETI 24/7 for the crunching.

Take care.......
