Plextor CDRW Spinning is driving me crazy!!

When I play an audio CD, it insists on spinning @ max speed. What does max speed sound like? Well, it's much, much louder than my h2o pump, 120mm fan, 80mm case fan, and spinning HD combined, because it causes the whole case to vibrate and shake.

Is there a setting by which I could force it to spin @ the 2x it's supposed to for audio CD's? If I can't fix this, I'll have to give up using my rig for listening to CD's - it's that bad.

I suspect it's doing this as the player is doing it digitally, reading the music as data. A workaround is to switch your player or drive into analog mode, and it'll then spin at 1x for music.

I think there are utilities on the Plextor web page allowing you to set the disk speed but I've not tried them before so don't know how they'll work in this case, or it if will affect other data reading.

Another thing to try is using windows meada player and copy the cd's to your drive. the songs end up about 2-3 meg each, and it will let you play them by cd, style, group or any pf several sorts it dose.
The drawback is you can only play them on the pc you copied them on.
I think it looks for the WMP you copied them with

or just rip them all to mp3 using a LAME based encoder (use google and you'll find one easy enough) then it'll all be on your hdd in transferable files

It's been a long week... didn't even think to try Plextor's site! Thanks, I'll give that a go.

Naw, I can't play 'em off the HD, I need all the spare CPU cycles I can get. (See sig.)

Edit: Disabling digital audio did it! (I had installed the ATI MMC and didn't realize it had messed w/my other settings. )
