Challenge is issued for 1/1/18 - 1/8/18. I am aware it is over the holiday but wanted to get the ball rolling. https://boincstats.com/en/stats/challenge/team/chat/973

I ran Yafu for a long time at a low level. I had to quit because of the gigantic variation in WUs. Took a look at the top machines and here's an example:

7 Dec 2017, 19:21:20 UTC 17 Dec 2017, 9:00:22 UTC Completed and validated 656,104.03 253,238.90 1,029,616.69 YAFU-16t v134.05 (16t)
windows_x86_64
4 Dec 2017, 14:52:11 UTC 16 Dec 2017, 14:18:07 UTC Completed and validated 723,370.79 347,881.30 40,669.59 YAFU-16t v134.05 (16t)
windows_x86_64

These WUs were being run at the same time by the same machine, a very very fast machine BTW.
The longer WU ran for 723,370 seconds and received 40,669 credits.
The shorter WU ran for 656,104 seconds and received 1,029,616 credits.
Over 25x the credits for a shorter Wu.
Crazy, isn't it?

I absolutely love the Yoyo project and feel that Yafu is a fine test project but as a Vault project needs work.

The credits are based on BOINC's default scoring mechanism. It does so for the sake of testing the latest code. Unfortunately that will not change.

Less than a day to go and I've not heard any complaints during the challenge thus far.

Yafu has been added. However, I have made the suggestion that it be moved from math to misc. since they also test applications from YoYo@home.

What work units are you running and how many cores do you have on those hosts? We can ask YoYo the reason for it if it isn't obvious.

Grouping

Does Rusty decide which group Math vs Misc or is a Poll run or both ?

It always has had math work units.
For the rest yoyo tests the BOINC server code with Yet Another Factoring Utility, enjoy!

They have actually tested with other apps as well. I used to have my ARM cell phones attached for Android work that was tested for YoYo@home. It just depends on the needs at the time.

Misc probably makes more sense than math. 2 WU limit makes sense as some WUs are very long, you can use up to 32 cores/WU and Yoyo wants faster WU turnaround. WU hogs be damned.

After running Yafu again for a few days I take back my above December criticism. It's different in the way it runs compared to most projects, but it's been greatly improved since I last ran Yafu a year ago. The credits are a crap shoot but as Coleslaw said that's in large measure because Yafu uses the latest unaltered BOINC server code and thus credit system. If you run a lot of Yafu the credits seem to balance out in the end. I was previously skeptical, but I like the progress Yafu has made over the years. Kudos to yoyo.

Not at all. There's work in every category:

What are your project preference settings?
