Leiden Classical

The admins are currently evaluating whether this project is still a good candidate for an ongoing challenge. The issue that is being discussed is the lack of work available to all. Though the project is very stable and has work available most of the time, they do limit the number of work units per account rather than per machine.

Yes; a maximum of 16 WUs per request and a maximum of 128 WUs per day per user.

it is intentional. due to back log wishes of volunteers, the number of total jobs the server can offer is a limiting factor (disk space and db size).

other effects also play a role; due to homegeneous redundancy and limited shmem table sizes, and using a tweaked scheduler to fill that table; your machine might not get work continuesly. make you computers request frequently and work will trickle in more and more.

mark somers.
For those not aware of the issue, a single 32 core system can pretty well eat through this limit within a day. This may not affect every user, but there are many people with multiple rigs and some of us have large multi-core rigs that just can't stay fed because of the admin imposed limits. We need the communities feedback on how they feel about this issue so we can better judge if it is indeed DC-Vault worthy at this time. Thanks for your consideration.

The project's create new account page says "Account creation is disabled for Leiden Classical at the moment. Please try again later.".

I've posted a question on their forums asking why.

Thanks for the heads up. You may even want to PM the admin in case he isn't checking the forums often. I've had mixed results in the past.

The project should now be set back to opening accounts. The admin said it was due to spammers and may get turned back off again in the future. I suggested he have some form of communication set up from the home page to let people know how to get in contact if it does. Please let us know if you have difficulties with this process as account creation is required for Vault participation.

Just a heads-up, the following was also posted in their news section: http://boinc.gorlaeus.net/all_news.php#140)

Furthermore, this project is reaching its ending phase probably somewere in 2018. This means as long as the software runs and the OS receives updates (EOL 2020), the project will be maintained, but automatic work creation will stop for sure.

Thanks again planetclown. We will certainly have to keep this on our radar.

This project is in violation of DC-Vault rules for inclusion once again. I have recommended to Rusty for it to be pulled from our rankings. If anyone has a strong objection, you may want to make it known now.

Due to spammers automatically creating accounts, account creation can and will be disabled at our discretion. Furthermore, this project is reaching its ending phase probably somewere in 2018. This means as long as the software runs and the OS receives updates (EOL 2020), the project will be maintained, but automatic work creation will stop for sure.
A sad day. Spammers strike again. Leiden has been an active project for so long that it's almost an institution.

Yeah... he posted that message in May after I contacted him about it. It was opened back up for a bit but reports indicate it is closed again. Since his announcement indicates a closure of the project next year, it won't matter much anyways. He limits the number of work units a user can download per day anyways, so if a heavy hitter wanted to crunch through a lot of work, they really cannot without using multiple accounts.
