YAFU

So, what is everyone's thoughts on YAFU? For those that aren't aware, it is the testing grounds for Yoyo@home. They test new software for the work units, new server code, and also run some mathematics.

Quote:
YAFU is a alpha project, which main goal is
  • to test the latest BOINC server code for bugs, please report any error which you find in the webpages in the forum
  • to factorize numbers up to 140 digit length which are needed to bring Aliquot Sequences to a size of at least 140.
  • to test the latest versions of yafu.
http://yafu.myfirewall.org/yafu/

Clearly if it were to be added it would have to go through a stress test and show that enough work was available for challenge status.

I'm basically opening up the topic to get general opinion on it as I've ran it for years and have done over 5 million points in work there.

Yeah, you need an invite code to register, it's on the website. Personally, I don't think a project which main goal is to test server code and/or app code should be in the vault, though. Sure, it does not violate inclusion rules (assuming it always has work available).

So I looked for the invitation code, in the news section of the message boards it says this:
https://yafu.myfirewall.org/yafu/for...php?id=187#780

My start page looks like this:

A Google cache of the page show this:

It appears to have changed somewhere after 28 Mar 2017 00:20:36 GMT.
Sorry for the many pictures, didn't feel like typing it all out.

I wonder if YoYo is aware of the change. Part of the testing is as you said .. server code. It may have got lost in translation. However, though it is a test bed for Yoyo@home it is also doing

to factorize numbers up to 140 digit length which are needed to bring Aliquot Sequences to a size of at least 140.
And I have no strong feelings either way. I was just looking at active projects that have work and have been stable for a while. I myself don't care much for test sites, but since he is also factoring those numbers... it was more than just a test bed.

My guess yoyo added that math part to keep people interested in the project, so there are some volunteer testers when he needs them.

Edit: I am pretty sure that yoyo read your opening post, lol.

It appears that one of your server updates has removed the invite code from the front page. Have you stopped accepting new members? Because the invite code seems to still be required.

Invitation code is still there. But you see it only if you are not logged in. It is right below the green button.

You can add YAFU to DC-Fault if you want. I would appreciate it.
The project factorize numbers, currently for open Aliquot Sequences (https://www.rechenkraft.net/aliquot/AllSeq.html) below 2e6.

From time2time I update to the latest BOINC server code to check if the BOINC server code is still ok. Therefore the project is always in alpha mode. I also do not make any modifications of the BOINC server, I use it as it is.

But nevertheless it does useful scientific work in helping to terminate Aliquot Sequences and prove or disprove the Aliquot Sequence Conjecture.

Due to the holidays and such, I will hold off on the stress test until January unless someone else goes ahead and sets it up.
