Autorun Failure in Windows Me

There's a Registry value that prevents autorun on certain drive types (such as floppy disk drives and local hard drives). A number of readers have reported autorun problems in Windows Me. The cause? Erroneous data in this Registry value disabled autorun for all drive types.

To fix the problem, launch Regedit and navigate to the key HKEY_ CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Policies\Explorer.

In the right-hand pane, double-click the value named NoDriveTypeAutoRun. Its data probably reads FF 00 00 00. Delete those four numbers and enter 95 00 00 00, then click OK. You may need to restart Windows Me, but the autorun feature for your CD-ROM drive will be enabled.
