Well thanks to the departure of our top three producers we have now dropped to 6th position and it must look to many like the end of Team 3DHQ. :(
THIS IS NOT THE CASE!!!
Myself and Michelle will be crunching for the team until the project ends, we will continue no matter what happens. We are committed to this project and it's goals. We may not fully understand the science, we may not talk endlessly about stats but that does not mean that we treat the project lightly.
The team is still in a good position, we still have a very respectable total and we still have 25 active members. That doesn't look like a team that's dead in the water to me. We can recover from this setback if we are prepared to stick with it and not lose heart. Chelle and I are still proud of the achievements of Team 3DHQ and should you be, we've done a lot for this project and made some good friends in the process. I hope the exodus is now over so we can get back down to some serious crunching and help put the team back on the map.

Hi people,
Just to clarify, I didn't bug out. Was/am just trying to repay a favor to KWSN for helping us achieve the number one spot (however fleeting). Granted, I'm not crunching DF at the moment, but I've got power on Genome@home for a bit (finally, a wacky race for a project that I'm interested in!:D ). Will return to DF when that's done unless G@H2 comes online (Don't hold your breath as it's been "about ready to come online" for 5-6 months now) which I'll give a spin as well. May even split the fleet (a bit of wishful thinking calling my setup a fleet that is). Personally, I'm more interested in the medical/biological projects of which DF definitely fits. So to wrap up, at the end of June, will transfer DF structures back to 3DHQ, am running Genome (was in a stealth mode, caching for the WR), and will return to crunching DF perhaps at full power maybe at 1/2 depending on the elusive G@H2 release.
Thanks,
prok/Euk/Dan

Well...i've just started and I'm not planning on missing the thwackings ahead of me... :)
Whoever feels the urge to leave, they just should do what they think is right...after all...imho, its their loss :)

Okay, I'm pretty worked up right now, so keep that in mind. To save time, I'm pasting a copy of my reply to a thread over at the Free-DC forum. It holds here as well...
People,
Okay, so what's the big deal about team hopping anyway?
1). Is the project any different?
2). Does it affect the science?
3). Does it somehow invalidate the results?
4). Does it invalidate the effort put in towards the project?
5). Can you trade in team crunched structures for food, shelter or medicine?
6). Is it stealing some valueable asset or property?
7). Was some sort of personal contract (implicit or explicit) made with any member of a "team" by "joining"?
8). Is it some question of misplaced personal loyalty?
9). Is it "cheating" the system when the project founders specifically stated that it's allowed?
10). Do people really attach that much emotional significance and self worth to a bunch of abstract numbers associated with an abstract project?
11). Can people actually see past the artificiallity of "stats" or "the game" and look at the big picture?
12). Do people jump to conclusions about personal motivation and character based upon nothing more than moving stats around in some charitable DC project?
13). Is it that satisfying to classify everyone as "us" and "them".
14). Does some silly, good natured competition really mean that much to people?
15). Does being "number one" really make you a better person?
I realize that people have their own opinions and have that as a given, human right; as a whole human being, I REFUSE to be judged by anonymous people. Get to know me first and I'm sure then you'll find some reason to hate or despise me, but until then classify or vilify someone else (implicitly or explicitly).
Sincerely,
Eukaryote/prokaryote/Dan

Why have teams in the first place then?...
Oh and I wasnt referring to you before, since you're obviously still busy posting here (and I thank you for that)...I dont care about who's got how many units to go where, its the ppl that make this a great place and it was the "leaving the BB" that I was referring to when I said it was their loss....
If you took my post as a personal attack on you then I apologise.

I think what you're doing is fine prok/euk/dan....and hopefully generating goodwill between our teams....(as well as stirring up kwsn a bit too ;))
I'm currently helping out some old friends in another project temporarily also.....

I don't think anyone here was questioning what you were doing, Prokaryote. You've been up front about it from the start, have let us know in advance when you're leaving, and when you expect to return. Thanks for that :)
I haven't lost sight of the project itself. We're all in it together, even if we're on different teams. So we march to the beat of our own drum, as does any other team. The proteins generated here are just as worthy to the project as any other.

Better stirred than shaken! :D
Despite the evil reputation we seem to have in some circles, KWSN's main aim in taunting other teams is to spur then on and so increase the overall rate of production of the projects ( if the competition was the all consuming goal we would just quietly rush by ... )
(Hopefully) we also make things a little less boring for everyone concerned. I find it very sad when people take us too seriously. :(
Team jumping is inherent in the 'rules' of this project (as I personally demonstrated :o ) and shouldn't come as a surprise.
This may sound hypocritical, but I actually dislike this feature (it is the main reason I don't do much SETI anymore) - can you imagine what would happen if sportsmen (and sportswomen ;)) took their achievements with them from team to team?
It simply wouldn't be cricket! :D :D :D
Ni!

I agree completely. thats the one feature about genome that I did like.....stats stayed put.
please take care of our other wandering cruncher in the interim :D

Well all things aside I will probably never do this project for reasons that will remain my own and are not of a concern here. What I really would like to say is that Rids you are correct in that the Team itself is strong and I wish DF3DHQ all the best and happiest of times no matter what rank you are in. Its the fellowship that is important in making a team great!
Oh and WELCOME to NM. I mean it too. :)
