I used to be able to r click on the start button and explore all users and I used that to orginize my programs by putting them in folders by catogory. It worked like a charm and made my prog list a lot smaller and it won't take up the whole screen when I opened it. Now when I explore all users it doesen't show any of the progs that come up when I go to all progs on the start menu. I went to explore just me (curent user) and still nothing. The weird thing is when I highlight a prog in the start menu it shows the whole contents of the folder. Sorry if I'm confusing I've been thinking for weeks on how to word this so just let me know and I'll try to explain better. Thanks all.

Hi Fara,
When you right click on the Start menu and go to Explorer, you should have three user options in the Documents and Settings folder. They should be:
(1) All Users
(2) Default User
(3) And your name user.
Check that you are in the right user. The folders are certainly there, or you could not see them when you highlight them in Start folder.
At least, if I read your post correctly, that should be the case.
Let me know and take care.........

I hope this helps Lee
this is where I used to control what came up under all progs in XP's start menu
ok nevermind unless you can teach me how to post a picture. I took some screenshots to help explain but I can't figure out how to get them on here.

Hi Fara,
OK, I think I know what you want or need to do:
First, when you click on the start menu, you get two sections, the programs are in the bottom section, and the progs that you are asking about are in the top section.
Is this correct?
If so, if you put the programs that you want to put in the start menu top area on your desktop. Then drag then to the closed Start button at the bottom left of the screen.
This will place the prog shortcuts in the top portion of the menu. Then just delete the shortcuts that you placed on the desktop, since you moved them to the start menu. Then when you open the start menu, the progs will show at the top of the section.
Does this help?
Take care.........

Hi there,
if you want to post a picture it has to be less than 150k, so if it isn't, resize it in something like Paint Shop Pro until it is.
Then, when you make a new post, or post a reply, you will see underneath the box where you enter your text a section that says "attach file". Just click on the browse button and locate your picture, then submit the post

Thanks Moonraker. I did that but the file was too big and it didn't throw a error at me so I didn't know.
I think I have a handle on what's going on. I install all my progs to a different partition than my OS install. That's something I learned in school and old habits die hard. I went into my part. that had all my progs in it and started moving things around in there and what I moved there affected what showed up in my start menu. So I think I have it now but I'm at work right now so I can't play with it. I'll let you know.
