I am trying to paint the inside of my case silver. I don't want a mirror finish, but something like highly-polished aluminum. I've failed with trying to clearcoat rustoleum metallics.

I tried the guide at pc-workshop but I think that's more for metallic colors and not a chrome-type of paint. The rubbing compound step completely screwed up the chrome paint, and so did the clear coat.

Thanks.

Yeah, I want a more reflective surface so that my neons brighten up the place a little better. The problem I'm having is finding a metallic paint that can be clearcoated or otherwise protected. Or maybe it's my method that's flawed, I don't know.

I'm using what little knowldge I have of bodywork so don't quote me. Having a good base for the paint to stick to is key and the smoother the base is the smoother the finished product will be. Try to use the same manufacturer for all your paint. You might run into problems if you mix and match paints. Strip/clean everythig down to bare metal. Spray some light coats of primer and sand it smooth. Repeat till you get the smoothness that you need. Then put the sandpaper away you should not need it again. Spray light coats of the chrome coat and let it dry inbetween coats. If you don't rush it you should have no problems.
Hope this helps, I was going to do the same thing to the inside of my case but then I got a pair of cold cathode tubes from azzo.com. Now I'm looking to tint my window 'cause they are so bright

Also if this is for the inside of your case then a clear-coat for protection shouldn't be necessary. Thats really only needed for the outside stuff.
