Win 2K + service pack 2 = No auto shut down!

Hi all,

I have just installed win 2K service pack 2. Now, when I click to shut down, It says "Its now safe to turn off your computer" and don´t turn my computer off!! what the heck is going on here?? is there any way to fix that?

Hi Kode,
Not sure if anyone else has mentioned anything, but a couple of things to try:

1/ Check the power options settings in the control panel, in there will be stuff about the function of the power button... I had this before when i did a fresh install of 2K and the machine gave me the same message...

2/ check to see in the device manager that all of the power components have the apt. driver and dont have ! next to them,,,

Soory if you have already done this, but thought it may help, if only a little !!

Thanx for the input, But I can assure you that I don´t have this options under power options/advanced. :(

I´ll check the drivers when I get home.

note: This is a real strange one. In the first time that I installed Win2000 it was shutting down properly. Now I had made a clean install and the problem persists!!:eek: Could be some settings in BIOS?

Hi all,

Here´s an update:

If you want to see the option "When I press the power button my PC..." under Power options / advanced tab, you must have ACPI enabled.

If you install Win2K with ACPI disabled, you must check the box "Support to APM" under power options to enable the auto-shutdown feature.
