Alright guys, I was wondering if anyone out there knows of a little utility that will restrict my DVD drive to read at 1x, because when i'm watching a film it sounds like there's a helicopter taking off in the corner of my room :D .

Cheers

Dave

Hi Fat Dave,

I am running my DVD at 12X and it is very quiet.
Perhaps your DVD is faulty, and the spindle is off or worn a little, causing a loud noise.
If you play a DVD at 1X, I think the quality will suffer too much also.
Do you have access to another DVD, for comparison purposes?

Take care........

PS.....I do not know of such a prog.

It's one of the pioneer slot loaders, and to be honest it seems to be about as loud as a few of my buddies ones. The problem is I only really use my PC for watching DVDs at night in bed as I've got a standalone Marantz one downstairs. As you can imagine this means i wan't to keep the volume low, and the noise of the drive makes this more difficult.

With respect to the 1x read speed causing problems, surely standalone DVD players only read from the disc at 1x anyway?

Thanks for the advice though..

Dave

Hi Fat Dave.

Take DVDUTILS 103 under Support>Downloads>Utilities Programs.DVD Utility program is for DVD-116, DVD-106S and DVD-A06S drives. It is for use under Windows 98, 98SE, Me, 2000 and XP and works great on slot model too.
Provides the functions to:
1. Change the drive speed (including a quiet mode for DVD Movie viewing)
2. Set the drives Region Code
3. Upload new firmware versions from within Windows
Note. works with Pioneer 6 series models only.
This utility has been written by one of the Pioneer engineers in Japan and he has kindly given permission for it to be posted on this link above.
I Hope this help you, and if it is not your model, let me know, and i'll try to find you the correct utilities for your driver.
