Hi there.

I have been using XP for about 2 months, and I am continually getting this problem. Whenever I startup XP and log onto any account, Administrator or User, windows auto-detects my modem if it is switched on, even if i have the drivers installed. This wouldnt be too much of a problem, apart from the fact that when it tries to reinstall the drivers, it gets to a point where it over-writes the old working ones, and then stops, saying "there is not enough storage space to install these drivers" (or something like that). I have about 3GB left on my C: drive, and i'm sure that the drivers dont take up that much room!!

If this happens, and i remove the drivers and try to reinstall the correct drivers, I get the same message. To get around this, it means I have to install the Standard 56k modem drivers (which dont actually work with modem for some other reason!!!) and then update them to the correct ones.

The modem I use is the Aztech EM-6800-E model.

Is there any sort of workaround or anything for this?

Thanx :)

Hi,

did the modem ever work with XP or has it always done this?
If it did work at one time you can use the system restore tool to roll the system back to this point. Although if this has happened a lot you may be limited as to how far you can restore back.

Are you certain that the drivers are for XP, or are they for 2k or earlier OS?

When it does this, do you end up with 1 or 2 modems in the device manager?

Have you looked on the modem manufacturers website for the latest drivers?

Yea - the modem works fine when the drivers are installed properly - its the one I use to access the internet every day - the problem comes if I start up XP with the modem switched on. It then tries to reinstall the drivers for it, overwriting the old ones and causing the problem.

The drivers are the ones that come with WinXP, designed for this modem specifically. And when this problem happens, I end up with 2 modems installed in the device manager.
