Hello

I have a question, I have 1GiG of DDRam, is there a program that will make WindowsXP load in to my Ram? I heard of some prog was able to do this but canremember the name. Would someone know of such a thing?

Hi Joe,

I don't understand the question.
Please clarify what you want to do and will help if I can.

Take care......

You mean make it load and run off a RAMdisk, that it?
If so there is an app here
http://www.superspeed.com/ramdisk.html
that will do that.

thanks moonraker, that is what i meant sorry for any confusion. Would you know how this prog works? Would 1GiG of DDRam be enough?

That not it. I am looking to load WindowsXP in to my Ram. Is this possible? There is this prog I dont remember the nam, I think it is something like Tweak EU or IU or something to that affect. Would anyone know of this.

Thanks,
Joe

Well if that's not it then I don't understand the question either.
What do mean you want WindowsXP to load into RAM??
That's what happens when you start it up anyway.

There is a util called TweakUI for XP. That doesn't do anything like running a RAMdisk though. It just makes for easy changes to lots of bits of XP and it's interface and has some handy little extras in it as well.

Someone told there is a prog that will load the whole operating system into RAM, so it will work faster. was RamDisk the one? Since I have 1GiG I can have the whole operating system run from RAM. The prog you told me about cost money is there anything for free?

Hi,
now I understand. What you are talking is known as a RAM disk. This is a commonly used thing with Linux where a cut down version of the OS is put onto floppy disks and then loads itself into RAM. Unfortunately I think all the ones for Windows do cost money. You will have to decide how badly you need the extra performance.

The performance gain to be had will depend a lot on how much you will access the HDD and what you use the computer for. As most of the OS loads itself into memory anyway at startup, the gains are probably not that great.

Dude, this option is available with TweakXP, its in there under one of the menues, im using it on my pc right now, it stores most of the windows files in your ram negating the need to slowly retrieve files from the hard drive. get tweakxp

Ok its under the main section SYSTEM PERFORMANCE, and in there the smaller section Cache Optimisation. In there is a small box to tick called Enable Core System Perfomance with a little explanation above it. Is that what you wanted? works nicely for me!

I think you get the same results simply by disabling virtual memory and forcing Windows to put everything into RAM.
