I just thought id flag up this album because it is fanatastic! Well it was my first introduction to the world of rock so perhaps that why it holds sentimental value but...

For me this album represents good new wave punk is all about. I mean with bands like Sex Pistols its not as if punk hasnt been in the spotlight before but Dookie raised it above the gutters of the underground. There are no fillers on this album, but the best tracks for me have to be Longview, Welcome to Paradise, Basket Case, She, damn they are just all good!

Im no technical expert but even I can say that his album has some truely original riffs, much copied (*cough* *Sum41* *cough*) but never bettered. Best of all ... the lyrics make sense... I dont know if this is a good thing or a bad thing!

GO BUY IT

Agreed on of the best punk albums ever. Broke ground for so many other San Fran groups.

Used to go to Gelman's all the time to see them and Groovie Ghoulies. When they cut the deal tho, there was hell to pay, a lot of the berkeley punk croud fell as though Green Day is just annother band gone pop.
Got some good local punk bands in the bay area, but most will never have the chance that Metallica, Megadeth, Prymus, Green Day get.(in their day Heavy indie metal was not the norm, now, all over the place, so who knows? And Wes Claypool is just weird)

If you like them give Lagwagon a spin.

yeah a damn good album, still on my regular playlist and i've had it since it came out :)

anyone seen 'em live? they are an absolute blast, great music played really well and loads of little jokes and piss abouts... at one point they started dragging people out of the crowed to play with them :)

Try the one before it - Kerplunk, also a very good album and possibly a bit more "punk." Also Smash or Ignition by the Offspring are very good album's
