I've recently had a internal modem fitted as the last one went tits up when the computer fell down the stairs.... all it keeps coming up with in the system device menu is a conflict with a pci device fitted. It's a internal modem but for some reason the computer recognises it as a audio device??. Everytime I go to update the driver it dosen't recognise it??... I now have no sound and the conflict just will not go...I have no update disks available as it was fitted by the engineer. The modem itself runs fine??... is there an inbuilt sonud card on this thing or something!!!!
thanks in advance

hi titan, can you tell us the exact modem type ? If you remove the card and post as much details you can read from it as possible, we'll try and point you in the right direction for correct drivers. Can you post your windows irq allocations too

Hi Ť±Títĺń±Ť™.
KMS is right. It is IRQ conflict. It's not a driver problem.Modem hate to share IRQ's.Look for this: ISA Modem,it use a black slot(ISA slot) and PCI Modem, it use a white slot(PCI slot). In the first case, look at your modem, and try to find for a jumpers.Set it to COM2 and IRQ3.In the second case, try to fit it in another pci slot.

Ok,
The ISA slot on my motherboard is not being used and the modem has been uninstalled!!!.... much to my amazement the computer still picked up the pci multimedia audio devive conflict??... the only thing that I can think of is internal soundcard which is part of the chipset.
Bare with me gentlemen/women as I've just been through the tattoo on the computer and there appears to be some problem with the tattoo as it keeps installing the wrong things. I've just reconfigured it with help from the packard bell site and help line and still there appears to be a problem. It's not the modem but the damn motherboard I think. It is a newer version of the motherboard supplied with the computer and has the ISA slot which the old one didn't. Tried smart restore but no difference... any suggestions or ideas as to my next step other than calling out the engineer to replace it??
