Hey guys......I have a shim currently on my TBird 1400.....and am upgrading to the XP 2000+......just wondering if this Shim will fit the new Athlon XP ??.....I dont want to risk cracking my new CPU like I did a 1.33ghz athlon a while back....

I have attatched a picture of the Shim here. Thanks guys

Plenty of places carry them. Here's a good place...link (http://www.coolerguys.com/cpucool/shims.shtml) .

I wouldn't use the shim. I think using one on my 1800+ fried it because it wasn't letting the hsf make full contact with the die. If you're safe you won't crack it.

Well, I was as safe as possible with that 1.33 tbird i had....and look what happend....ended up just cracking the core...I dont want to take that risk....if it doesnt make good contact....ill know...Just watch the tmperature of your CPU..if it starts climbing fast....then ill kill my system, and take it off i guess. I dont see why they would even manufacture the shim's however without first testing them, and making sure they fit right.

You shouldn't need to use a shim with the AXp's, as their mounting substrate is organic(read has some give) versus the older purple ceramic.

but what about the core? Isnt it just as simply to crack as the old Tbird? I just keep hearing that "crack" sound in my mind, lol, and i dont want to hear that same sound with my brand new xp 2000+.
