I need help restoring an old 486 back into working condition. I am doing it for a friend. But I can't get it to recognize the CD-ROM, and I can't load an OS on it because every time I try with the boot floppy it tells me invalide system disk. Any clue as to what to do?

Have you tried another boot floppy? That message is usually when the c:\ drive isn't booting make sure it is set to boot from floppy in the bios. Watch it booting up, is the floppy drive light on when it tries to boot if not may be a dodgy floppy drive. i am sure somebody will be along with some better suggestions, but double check the basics in the mean time to see if it is floppy or hard disk problem. hope this helps.

...Also worth checking the cables are connected correctly.
