Hi all,
after oc my slot A 700 to 940 and my biggest acheivement hacking the promise Ultra to a Fasttrack i have very much done nothing till now. My current socket A 1G running on ECS K7VZA (boo iknow!) is in need of a major upgrade!
i've posted a WTB on the buy sell (it reads BULL,SELL for some reason !?) with no leads so i think its time to spend somemore hard earn cash again!

So here are my choices and your valuable comments are as always WELCOME :o)

Abit KR7A-RAID or KG7-RAID can i use my existing socket A (i don't even know what type blah blah it is , i just know its a 1G, 1 of the early ones-hasn't been penciled-that i know!) and i suppose DDR ram PC1600 or pc2100. Now which is better and is it worth paying the extra for -what about oc??

or my cheaper option..

Abit KT7A-RAID or similar then use my existing sd ram and the standard amd socket A 1G cpu....but then it will have to be cheap as i think spending on that sort of set up is rather dead-end...or am i wrong?

ok thanks for reading this , once a rookie -always a rookie! ta la;)

Among the choices listed, the best bang for the buck is getting a KR7A and some 2100 DDR.

Buying the KT7A and re-using your SDRAM may be better cost wise, but in the long run does not buy you much of an upgrade. Any hard earned dollars at this point should be spent on a DDR system IMOHO. Later, you can always swap in a new XP CPU too.

Skip DDR 1600 memory. It much cheaper. Running the memory at 133 (2100) vs 100 (1600) is well worth the price difference.

The KR7A is about 5-8% faster than the KG7 in all-around performance. Both are solid mobos. This choice comes to down price. If you could get your hands on a KG7 substantially cheaper than a KR7A, it would make a nice bang for the buck choice. But if you can swing the extra $$, get the KR7A.

BTW, make sure you use quality memory. Don't skimp here. I suggest Crucial. Not as pricey as some of the "exotic" stuff, but it is of high quality and performs great with either of the mobos mentioned.
