Hello

I am having a problem with this video card, GeForce3 Ti 200. I am getting snow in the middle of running WindowsXP. I did not overClock the card. When I get the snow it will freeze my computer and then display a blue screen and tell that there was a error and the error is NV4_disp. Does any one know of this problem and how to fix it. I got the latest drivers for it. I am running it on KG7-R motherboard, CPU-AMD thunderbird 1.3Ghz.

Thanks in advacne,
Joe

Ahhh, congratulations. You may have been hit with the infamous Nvidia/XP "infinite loop" error. The problem is encountered by users running the Nvidia 23.11 driver and WinXP. It appears most common with VIA chipset mobos, although the problem has surfaced on Intel machines too. The only common denominator among all troubled users is the Nvidia 23.11 driver. I'm not clear on the details, but it has something to due with memory management and the 23.11.

There are a number a ways to fix this.

One, you could turn down your memory settings. This seems to work for many users. John Gatt (VIA marketing/support) has a good article on what the error is and how to adjust memory settings to fix it here (http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=64) .

Second, if your using the 23.11 driver...don't. Move back to the 21.85. The Performance hit is negligible and the problem is fixed.

Just in case it isn't the infinite loop, I suggest:
Uninstalling the Nvidia driver completely. Then re-install the 21.85.

Make sure on the KG7 you did NOT install the VIA AGP VxD driver that is included with the VIA 4in1 driver pack. This driver is only for VIA northbridge mobos and can cause trouble with the AMD northbridge on the KG7. The other 3 drivers in the 4in1 pack are for the southbridge and are ok for the KG7.

To be honest, with WinXP you should not need to install anything, (AMD miniport or VIA 4in1). XP should handle everything on it's own just fine. But if you do feel the need to patch something, only the AMD AGP miniport driver is needed for the AGP, and all the drivers in the 4in1 EXCEPT for the AGP VxD can be loaded.
