Looking at upgrading to XP1500+ and Soltek SL-75DRV2.
What do you guys think? Good choice?
I'm on a limited budget :p

Hi Buzz,

Well, I am not a Soltec person, so I look at the cost and features.

The XP1500+ costs $110.00 US + shipping and Soltec SL-75DRV2 costs $100.00 + shipping on Pricewatch.

The MSI K7T266 Pro costs $76.00 + shipping on Pricewatch.

As you can see from my signature block that MSI mobo's do rock. The price is small, but the features and performance is great.

Might give it a thought. If not, there are a number of other mobo's out there that are also reasonable....IWill, Gigabyte, etc.

Good luck on your choice.

i was going to get a soltek, but reconsidered partly because there were only 2 dealers in N. America selling them i could find at the time. and if i needed to return it (been there - done that too many times), i would be stuck for a while waiting if they had replacements.

if the board was, at that time, available from many more dealers, primarily one near me or one i have delt with before, well, i probably would have continued with the order.

though it isn't expected to be a great overclocker (compared to the other popular boards), it looked good on paper for the price.

Hey thanks for your replies.
But i'm not too sure with MSI, i bought the MSI Geforce MX400 and compared to old Asus V7100, the mx400 was pretty disappointing.

Hi Buzz,

The choice is yours, for sure, but as I said, look at my sig and MSI is solid.

The older mobo's from any manufacturer are not very impressive.

Anyhoo, if MSI is not your bag, I would not go Soltek. There are too many better mobo's out there, even if you don't go MSI.

Let us know your decision.

Later, Gator.

Just keeping you guys updated.
I rang around the cheapest stores in Auckland and found another board that was same price as Soltek. It's a GigaByte GA-7VTXH.
I read the Tomshardware review, although it didn't perform as well as the Soltek i think i'm leaning towards this one becuase i was reading a Soltek Review here (http://www1.overclockers.co.nz/ocnz/mobo/75drv2/1.shtml). It says it doesn't support Alpha and swiftech heatsinks :(
and plus the gigabyte is in groovy blue and has dual bios :)
Ah well i'm not too stingy on performance, i don't need the fastest pc in the world.
I'll tell you what i end up with when i purchase it, (hopefully end of this week or next week) :D
Also i found out the price of the MSI K7TPro2 is like $400NZ. Which is 'way' overpriced compared to the US price.

Yeah over here in New Zealand they are priced similar.
But over here in NZ things aren't as cheap as USA. With new techonology coming out everyday, it's pretty hard for me to keep buying the 'best' motherboards out.

Upate: I picked up my motherboard on sunday. I was quite surprised when i found it with purple pcb because on their website it said it was 'coming soon'.

I haven't overclocked it yet :-) as i didn't have the correct tools to unlock it and the heatsink was a bitch to install!!
