just by your opinion, what is better for overclocking, i know i had a thread about which is better, but i mean for overclocking.
amd or pentium. i know the celeron and duron are both good for overclocking, i mean like p4 and t-bird stuff. and also, what you think you can overclock a certain system by... say if youve overclocked a 1ghz t-bird to a 1.3. let me know, just so i get a little spec on which is the better "overclocker".
thx

It really depends on your goal for overclocking. Some people want to get the most Mhz they can, some people just want to buy a cheap system that goes fast.

Pound for pound, AMD is better, but that doesnt mean you should count Intel out. Intel has far more motherboard solutions, from very-integrated boards, to many more dually solutions. Intels are easier to cool, and if you go super cooling may actually yield better than an AMD.

But...when most people think overclocking, they think AMD. If for nothing else because it is possible (although sometimes difficult) to unlock the cpu's clock multiplier. AMD is what most people, including myself, go for.

However, I just bought a brand new PIII board, and a Celeron 800, and 128m CL2 PC133 ram for $130 for my gf for xmas with integrated sound, video, and AMR modem/nic. I didnt try to overclock it, but this is the cheapest, most integrated system Ive boughten, and it really flies, even played quake3 just fine. The equivalent AMD system would have cost me $200 or more, just because of weaker motherboard support in the low end.

For high end, nothing weak about AMD :)

but arent amd's cheaper than pentiums? if your lookin at a 1.2 ghz for amd its probably about 50 bucks cheaper than pentium right?

AMDs are cheaper yes, but pentium pricing is really low right now, especially for the cpus. Like I said, the AMD cpus are better and cheaper.

BUT, its the motherboard support for the low end that AMD just doesnt have alot yet. If your building a sub $500-$600 computer, your best bet is really Intel i hate to say.
