I have been reading about the problem when using a Via Chipset relating to a hard disk performance.TecChannel.de says that the Via Chipset are currently unable to take full advantage of the performance of PCI.They performed a Tests on a variety of Via boards, clearly indicating that Via have a problem on burst tranfer and therefore, they can currently not recommend Via chipset for a professional users who demand high performance from their hard drivers and think about setting up Raid configurations.
Well, i decided then, to check if this issue affect my KT7A-Raid (KT133A) and 2xIBM 75GXP 46Gb on Raid0 using Highpointer HPT 370 ATA100 controller on board.
Surprise.It really sucks.Only 74 MB/s on burst transfer.I decided to give a try for the Patch from George Breeze, the PCI-Latency Patch version 0.19.
The results using GB patch v.0.19 was no good.I had problems with sound blaster sound card.I decided then, to set individually the registers, and it was a big surprise for me.
The best results was setting the register as follow:
- Register 75 bit 0-2, or 3 - set to 3x32
- Register 0D - set to zero
Here is what i got:
PCI = 133Mhz
Random Acess Time= 13.3 ms
Burst Speed= 92,6 MB/s
Read Speed Maximun= 78250 Kps
Read Speed Minimum= 5345 Kps
Read Speed Average= 57235 Kps
PCI= 147 Mhz
Random Acess Time= 13.8 ms
Burst Speed= 102,9 MB/s
Read Speed Maximum= 78367 Kps
Read Speed Minimum= 5885 Kps
Read Speed Average= 57647 Kps
The tests was made using HDTach vers. 2.1.Win XP, and 64/2.0.1019 bios and 2.0.1019 driver.
I hope someone here can replicate it.
Regards.
Note: It's for KT133 and KT133A.(I know that there is something wrong with KT266A)
