It's a neato feature... but I'm more of a "remote desktop" fan ;)

terminal server integrated into XP prof, really nicely done.. you get 16bit colors & the sound :D

as long as the problem doesn't prevent her from getting on the internet & it doesn't disable the remote assistance service

you can ideed help her out :)

Hello all,

Do you have to go to the internet to work this or can I dial directly into a computer and use remote desktop?

Sorry to bring up an old thread but the last question hasn't been answered. And luck the Google spiders are in here, or I wouldn't have seen the thread..

But I'm very intrested in 2 things,
1: The remote desktop thingy
2: How to dial into someone computer to help out

Hi Rusty,

Remote Assistance allows another user either on a local network or over the Internet, to connect to your computer.
You give them permission and then they can work your system from afar.
As long as both systems are on the internwt, it makes no difference if it is dialup, TI, Broadband, or whatever.
Go to Programs on the Start Menu on the lower left of the screen, and choose Remote Assistance.
Follow the directions and you should have no problems.

Does that answer the questions?

Take care.......

You can also do this through MSN messenger if you have it intalled....at least that's how I remember letting someone in once ages ago.

yupper. i do recall though that if a router is involved, you must do some port forwarding first to connect.

Hi Jules,

Problem with MSN Messenger is it is not secure, where Remote Assiatance is.
Yep, it does work tho.
Most folks do not know how to port forward.
Too many hoops to jump through, that is why I prefer Remote Assistance.

Take care........

I use VPN to keep in touch with my more difficult-to-reach rigs. :)
