Ok...now I've decided on a cdwriter......Anyone here tell me anything about MAXTOR D740X 6L060J3 60GB hard disks?
About the best deal I can find locally......are they loud?Do the handle higher fsb's?Are they relaible (or is it too early to tell)?
Hope they are OK.....there is no decent choice (except another IBM 60gxp......and given that it is my current fsb limiter...and it ocasionally makes worrying noises. ...I would rather avoid another)

Hi Jozzer.
I got two MAXTOR D740X 6L040J2 40GB to install in Raid0(I'm waiting for them).I can't tell you anything because it's new for me , and on the market too, but you can read a review here on review section and here too. There are two models, one's "J" signifies that the drive is equipped with the regular bearings and other's "L" signifies that the drive is equipped with the Fluid Dynamic Bearing Motors."L" is almost impossible to find and in my opinion it's better than "J"(Loudness).About the Higher fsb, BKPaul have two and he is in trouble above 145mhz on Raid0.I've heard that this new Maxtor don't like high FSB.Maybe a Via or highpointer' problem, not the drive instead (i'm not sure about).I know that there's a new bios from highpointer(beta and unofficial) 2.0.1203 that fix it.(We have to wait for BKPaul try this)About reliable, hummm..... after the IBMs , probably it's too early to tell :D
I hope this help you and good luck, although i think that this new Model from Maxtor is a very good deal.
Regards.
Opsss, almost forgot: as you said there's no decent choice :D ( Hummm.... Look for this from Western Digital ( IBM never more )

I recently installed the maxtor you are on about on my pc and after a shaky install (windows causing a general pretection fault and having to go into safe mode to format in windows) all was well. The drive seems totally stable, it is quick and very quiet. Though does seem to get very hot, maybe a HD cooler if you intend on a lot of o/c ?

well I used to be able to run at 180fsb with my ibm drives but after installing the maxtors 155fsb is pushing it... so I would say they are no good for fsb o\c

Well....got the drive in.....seems fine.No louder than the ibm 60gxp, and a bit faster I fancy. For anyone who has noise probs, make sure it is securly mounted!!
Seems not to have been the cause of my fsb probs though:(I suspect powersupply or dodjy corsair memory!
