he just double clicks on the internet connection icon on the tray
or he uses a software
or he used a website (of many) that calculate your connection speed (he does have the link of such a site right there! )

Jetrunner-just click on speed in my first post

Therion- little faster today 44 kbps, soon cable will be here and i'll be right up there got cable for xmiss, just got to get the cable guy here to set it up yesssssssssssss!!!!

GITster

i've got a speedy:

6238 Bps 50 kbps

from that link.

Now that speed doesn't bother me, that's perfectly fine, what does bother me is the way, when i try to open up pretty much any wepage it, it partially loads then then just stops dead for about 2 mins, then continues. that REALLY P!**es me off.

Now during this time the browser stops, i can do stuff on other ports, such as email, or download, but if i try opening another browser, that won't do anything untill the first one start moving again - and then will load partially then then pause stopping all other currently loading webpages  GGGGRRRRRRRrr.

If that's not bad enough, if i go on a machine which is connected to mine via ICS (connects to the internect VIA my machine) there is no such problem, loads like speedy thing on speed. What the hell is going on?!!?

This is from IE help

To uninstall Internet Explorer

If you encounter problems that you cannot resolve, it is often beneficial to uninstall Internet Explorer and then reinstall it. This procedure replaces files that might have been damaged.

In Windows, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
Notes

If you are using Windows XP, click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
If you upgraded to Internet Explorer 6, when you uninstall Internet Explorer 6, you will go back to the version of Internet Explorer that was on your computer before you upgraded.

I had the same problem using IE 6 and this fix it

ive never seen this... only when i first use the browser .. it detects the connection settings.. but after that as long as its on it runs very quickly.

are you all sure that your settings are correct for internet connection.. and your machine isnt release/renewing ip address whenever you use internet with ie?

GITster
27th December 2001, 11:14 PM
i don't think it's renewing the ip, but then how do you stop that if it was?

tripodal
27th December 2001, 11:20 PM
its a matter of finding out what the browser is doing, if it had to constantly detect network settings that is a problem. i would double check all your network settings to make sure they are propper...
in network properties.. and in IE where under the internet connection tab, make sure all settings agree with what they should be.. it could be 100 things making IE act funky

you lease could even be expiring too rapidly as often as everyfew minutes... which ive seen in my home network... stupid people played with myserver... im still p'ved about that one!

The Therion
27th December 2001, 11:27 PM

Hay guys.want a good laugh the cable guy came to run the cable up stars, my wife shows him were everything is. she comes back about 1/2 hour later and the guy got the cable running up the basement stars under the rug in the hall, up around a few door casings, up the next set of stars under the rug up stares to the modem!! She says what the hell are you doing!! The guy looks at her and says "running cable". She told him to leave and take cable whit him

She gives them a call and tells them to send someone who knows what they are doing. now they say that we have to wait 2 weeks because we are on the bottom of the list WTF

well i am still waiting for a consensus from the other mods but the letter of the law is that we shan't discuss warez in any shape or form. so anything that covers software theft or theft of films and music (i.e. downloading divx you don't own) is a big no no.

in my opinion though downloading startrek tv episodes is ok as they are transmitted on national telly for all to see anyway

dicki

tripodal
30th December 2001, 03:31 PM
never thought of it that way, i agree with that, but perhaps it is too closely related to another form of video that cant be discussed

sorry

that ok, we used to have some forum guidelines for people to view but they appear to have disappeared...

the general gist of it is....

we are a PG rated site and have a lot of younger members so we need to keep it clean. no swearing. no porn. no linking to adult themed material.

no warez or any related stuff.

no personal attacks.

these rules are enforced by the mods as they see fit.

the reasoning behind most of these rules is first and foremost to promote a friendly atmosphere. i personally feel that ninjamicros is one of the friendliest places on the net and jealously guard that friendly atmosphere. the other rules are there to protect our benefactor fluke, this site was started and is still linked to his first product the freespeed pro and because of this he is liable for any wrong doing on this board so we have to watch what we say.

like i said there was no harm done... hopefully while flukes doing these mods he will dig out the guidelines and post them somewhere for all to see
