first it says xp has native support and generally does not need it.... then their is a special winxp 4.37 driver.
listed below that is all of the versions of drivers with 4.36 at the top as the latest driver... what happened to 4.37? Is 4.37 just for xp? 4.36 for every other os?

hi 4.6,
not sure what the deal is i guess, the 4.37's fix some issues and maybe cause others. I've stuck with the XP native drivers and have been 100% AOK though know of others that have used the 4.37's with success after bother with the natives, & yet others that have tried both and are still having issues. Guess its a suck it and see, what works for one wont neccessarily work for others :) XP drivers are still in their infancy i'm sure all will become clear soon .

Hey 4.6 Power, I only know of a couple of xp driver sites, have you tried This one yet?

So far I have stuck with the XP native VIA drivers and have had great success with them. The only non-native drivers i've used so far are the ones for the Highpoint Controller (on the KR7A and KG7), and the VisionTek and Santa Cruz cardsr (on the KR7A). Everything else is XP native on all three rigs (includes 3 NICs, 3D Prophet MX, Vanta TNT2, SBlive, SB PCI128 and more).
I say go with the XP drivers first and keep them if no issues arise. If issues arise, then try the latest 4in1s. Be aware, though, that the VIA 4in1 install only installs the INF file. if you want all the drivers installed you must "right click" the 4in1 setup exe file and choose Win2k compatability. Then install. This way all the drivers will be installed.

1 benefit i found from installing Via 4 in 1 over using the generic Xp drivers is now i have full support over ACPI Standby mode.
I used to have probs recovering from standby with my usb mouse but now all is well. system is at desktop and ready to rock in 14 seconds.
I think i'm using 436 version

Hi Joe,
I don't run with the VIA drivers either. The on board drivers are just fine for most all of the needs of the average user.
One thing to remember, there have been, in the past, issues when the VIA drivers have been installed last, as in an update.
The video and sound of some devices have been affected.
If for some reason, you feel the need to go to 4.37, you might think about reinstalling the vid and sound drivers afterwards.
Just a thought.

The XP drivers seem to work fine. In fact, I don't think I'll do much messing around with them unless I have problems or a true lack of performance. I don't think I'll have to worry about that for awhile yet though...

Hi,
I installed the via 4in1 (4.37,s) on my sons computer and it cured a problem with the onboard sound (Asus A7V133) As you moved the mouse you could hear a noise from the speakers....after the install the problem went away

Hi BigBen,
"Do not update 4-1 drivers unless you are experiencing problems."
"Microsoft Windows XP has native XP support and 4-1 drivers usually are not needed."
Those are quotes from the www.viahardware.com website.
VIA is the first to say that if you don't need to update 4in1, then don't.
You certainly needed and it did indeed cure a problem.
Glad to hear your son's system is now functioning correctly.
Take care and talk to ya later.

Indeed. It's weird to see my CPU listed in the device manager, and drivers listed for it!

Hi Spec,
Yes it is WEIRD!!
XP does that by default.

Take Care.
