goto start/run then type "sfc" in the fields below try to restore the dll file from windows 98
It will work if the file is on the disk your restoring from if the dll file is not on the 98 disk it might be on another or could have come from a download in which case it makes it harder to find the file.

or
ftapp.dll
An advertising spyware - installed by some *.exe files. Try renaming the DLL and see if that is sufficient to stop it in its tracks. I'm not certain what programme installs it, but if you right click the DLL you might be able to work it out from the properties.

also found this on the web
in Windows do Start-shutdown-restart in MSDOS mode
then do the following commands
cd.. (gets you to root directory)
cd\ftapp (changes to the FTAPP directory)
dir (lists the files there -- should be ftapp.dll and ftapp.mon)
ren ftapp.dll noftapp.dll (will rename this file)
ren ftapp.mon noftapp.mon (will rename this file)
exit (should restart in Windows then)
and that should have the files renamed so that they don't start up, then you can delete them. I just did this and I think it works.
Good luck
and Welcome to the forum :)

Bull****, the system file checker replaces the new dll files with the old ones (this being good in some cases) but in this case i replaced the shell32.dll file. n-e how its working fine right now so i should sweat it
