I wonder when it'll finally get released over here?
Then again, that gives me more time to finish 8 & 9 :D
In 8, I got to the end and after a couple of hours battling, I got killed. Been too ****ed off to try again.
For 9, I just need to get round to finishing it. I'm on the last disk so can't be far off, but for some reason I just lost interest...

i hope they are working on the ps3
Baptizer
28th December 2001, 12:29 PM
Well....
i am not going to get in a 'competition' with the x-box, but i doubt we will see a ps3 until maybe mid-2003/early-2004, which is still probably too soon.
I just wish i could play more than a few hours a day.....argh....

and you continue to persist! i dont think that sony will maitain superiority unless they unveil something more grand soon. the fact that the xbox is almost 3x as powerful will definatly take away alot of the edge that the ps2 had in the beginning
Baptizer
2nd January 2002, 05:14 PM
Hmm....i am not exactly sure on the system specs, but i doubt it is really 3x as powerful. Or is it? I have seen both systems up and running, and to be honest, they seem the same......
I think 2003-christmas would be the soonest ps3 would come out.....ps2 has only been out a year and a month....

Hard to believe ps2 out sold both the x-box and game cube....
tripodal
3rd January 2002, 10:05 PM
i am a great playstation fan, the games are just there for it. thats why it still outsold both systems while still being inferiour in many ways...
i did find one discrepancy microsofts website says the main memory bandwidth of the ps2 is 3.2 gb/s same as rambus, but on the sony site its listed as 48gb a second... wondering what the difference is and if its there.
speculative
12th January 2002, 09:54 PM
PS2 memory bandwidth is very fast if I remember right, because there's not that much video memory. :(
The reason PS2 is outdoing and will continue to outdo both Xbox and Gamecube for quite some time is history.
The Atari Jaguar was the most powerful system of its time, yet it flopped.
The Panasonic 3DO system was the most powerful of its time, yet it flopped.
Etc. etc. The games make the system. Who gets the games is politics. That's why Halo, which was originally bound for the PC market too, is Xbox only. Also why Munch's Odyssey went from PS2 to Xbox. And also why there probably won't be a Final Fantasy game on Xbox. (Sony now owns 22% of Squaresoft.)
If I were to buy a game system now I'd get a PS2 for sure. Have you seen what Nintendo is doing to Zelda? :( There's a lot of junk coming out for the Gamecube, and there's nothing on Xbox that's unique to me. But even though I think the PS2 is a step up, I was watching the add for GTA3, and also looking at some screenshots of Star Wars Starfighter, and they didn't seem all that graphically improved over the PS1. In fact, they looked really primitive compared to what a good computer can do. And I already have a good computer. (When it finally gets booted that is. :p )
It just goes to show Sony's power as a company that the PS2 is way harder to program for than the Gamecube or Xbox, yet PS2 is getting the games...

i totally agree, but i would hope that ps2 becomes more user friendly and releases a more powerful system in near future

Yeah, I hope they either drop the price to 199$ which I think would move a lot more units, or else include something else with the standard PS2 unit at the 299$ price point - like a hard drive for example, or an extra controller or something. I do like that the Xbox has a built-in hard-drive as a standard feature, since memory cards for the new systems seem to cost around 30$ each. Man, that's almost as much as a game!

while the xbox's included hard disk allows you to use it as a save file... not all games work with it... project gotham racing requires a memory card anyways!!!

im not entirely sure what its for anywyas.... i know that when the ps2
hard drive comes out it will be used as a cache.. to store parts of the game and decrease loading time... not sure about it being used as a memory card tho

you dont think that a ps3 would finish off sonys competition?
backwards compatability and the most advanced games out there by far?
Baptizer
15th January 2002, 03:33 PM
Honestly i dont think it'll finish off the competition. I do think it will increase the grasp that sony already has on the gaming console world........
and i would be TRUELY dissapointed if sony took all the console business. I think its good that 3 systems can compete in one market...it gives us gamers so many more options, and it does increase the over all product and value that we get.
By the time ps3 would come on the market(i am expecting atleast a 1.5 years, to 2.5 years until it ever does), i am hoping that Sega surprises us all with a next generation system(ya i know i know, they went out of the market and only produce games, but cant a guy dream).
