the answers probably right under my nose but can anyone tell me what i'm missing....

Have set 2 machines up with XP both machines have 2 user id's(both user i'ds set to admin). On one machine XP was installed over the top of ME, the other machine was a clean XP install.

Now the clean install machine initially asked me when installing applications if the application should be made available for all. This has stopped happening for some reason. The install over ME machine has never asked me.

How do i turn this feature back on for future installations ??

How can i change already installed apps so they are available for all rather than just for the user id logged in during install ??

Many thanks in advance :0

No direct experience with XP here so if I am talking out of my **** then please tell me.

I have only ever had one app ask me this in win2k and that was a CAD program. I should think that this is controlled by user permissions, either on the disk or in the registry. Or it may be as simple as the fact that if you install it for one user it only appears on that users start menu and not for all users. I think this is where I would start by exploring the start menu and putting the apps you want available to everyone in the
All Users/ Start Menu folder.
The more I think about it the more likely this is because it's not everyone that will have NTFS installed so it probably isn't controlled by user permissions on folders.
However, even if I am talking twaddle it will give you some food for thought :D

thanks Geoff, think thats the case for most apps, contacted the manufacturer of the app in question that was really bothering me and they tell me its a problem with their install package which should be updated in the next release. :)

Hi,

Yes, you have to permit for all user. Basically that is only the function under Win2K and Me did not have that option. It doesn't hurt since you log in as admin so you can set the application for any user. It is just a function... nothing much about it. Don't worry:)
