View Full Version : How hard is it to build a computer?

You can find the cases, hardware, power supplies, everything you need online for really good prices. But for someone like me who doesn't have a great deal of computer knowledge, would that be asking for trouble? I don't see where it would be hard at all to build a computer cause I obviously do know what everything is in the case but how tricky can it get? Or is it just better to have a shop build you one to save all the headaches?

Hi flash_point,

It depends. If you are the do-it-yourself type person, and you aren't afraid of electronics... all you need to do is find some articles that guide you step by step through the process. If you are the type who doesn't know what all the icons are on your desktop besides "aol" and you ask someone else to program your vcr, then drive right to your nearest gateway and blammo you are done. Otherwise you might want to read on....

Hey Flash Point, welcome to the forum.
Only thing I have to say is go for it man, build it yourself. I can promise you that any problem you might encounter, someone on this board can help you with it.
Why would you want to pay close to if not twice as much to have someone else build it for you when all the members of this forum are willing to help you out with any problems.
I could toss a rig together in about 2 hours (windows is slow to load :D ) and I don't know that much about computers.
Take Baps for example, he could probably toss together a rig in 30 min, while eating some doritos, drinking some code red mt. dew and playing cs at the same time. ;)
Check out that link that 4.6 power posted, and once you atarted shopping around for what you need, post a thread listing what you intend to buy so you can get input from the guys. They can tell you the pros and cons and price value of the items.

:xwavey: welcome to the board

i compleatly agree with surgeon, pc's are easy to build (put the square peg in the square whole that kind of thing) getting windows loaded and stable is harder but worth the effort and you will get a far better computer for the money.

people like us are allways ready to help and offer advice on componants and where to get them from just let us know what kind of stuff your after and we will let you know what we think
