Ever since I bought Windows XP I have been having problems getting my sound card to work. I have not yet contacted the Microsoft help line but was wondering if anyone here can help me. I have a PC Chips Motherboard, it is the PC100 Mainboard - Super Socket 7 M590. It has a built in Video & Sound card. The Sound card is a Sound Pro. Well here is the weird part. Windows XP is mis identifing the drivers for the sound card. For some reason it is looking for drivers for a CMI8330/C3D Audio Adapter. How can I find the correct drivers for my sound card so that I can have sound once again & make XP run perfect. Thanx

Hmm.....I had a pcchips m590......my wife now uses it.....I don't have xp installed on it, but the sound chip IS a cmi8330!Are you sure that sound pro doesn't use this chip?http://www.pcchips.com/index2.html Try loading the win2000 drivers for soundcard, maybe they will work well enough (hope so, cos my wifes pc is due for reinstall soon.....and XP is the best thing to put on it!)
Let me know how you get on.......were there any other probs with the install of xp?

I was looking at the sound card last night when I had the case off & it specifically says Sound Pro on the chip. Aside from the sound not working XP is a flawless program. I would take XP & no sound over Windows 98 SE & all of it's problems & constantly crashing in a heartbeat. You would love it, it definetly takes a while to get use to with the new format and all.
Now with installing XP, if you have a Zip drive and/or CDRW drive you have to unplug the data cable on both of them & then go into the BIOS setting & select them & say that they are NOT INSTALLED or DISCONNECTED, it was one of those two. Before I did that it had stop error messages popping up & I am not the only person who has had this problem, apparently it has a problem loading XP w/ other IDE device drivers hooked up. Then after everything is intalled, turn the computer off & hook everything back up & then change your BIOS setting back to where it was before & everything will be fine.
By the way PC Chips website is down right now so I can't check out those WIN 2000 drivers right now. Maybe when I get home from work the site will be back up. Thanx

Disable your sound in the bios and get yourself a pci soundcard and make sure the card has xp drivers the game muse xl is very cheap 20.00 at the newegg and is xp friendly. Your other option is to see if you can find some sound pro xp drivers. When I installed xp, xp renamed my soundcard to a different model that it thought the xp os could utilize better, and I had sound but lost rear channel support so I switched to a different soundcard.

How hard is it to install a sound card & hook it up? What is needed to make the seperate sound card work once my built in sound card is disabled? Basically how will Windows XP pick up this sound card if the sound is disabled in BIOS? Is it easy to hookup & do? From your post I couldn't tell if Newegg was a company that makes sound card or a place that sells sound cards. Can you help clarify for me. Thanx
EDIT: Nevermind I figured out that Newegg was a website. Now do all sound cards work w/ every mother board & such? Thanx

depends what you need....I'm a muzician, so a good card is essential.........if you just want cheap sound (not the world of difference as far as gaming/everyday use goes) then get the cheap yamaha......if you can afford it go for the sb live, or better still the turtle beach santa cruz!
To turn off the onboard soundcard there is a jumper to move on the mobo.....piece of cake!look in the manual, or ask me if you don't have it!

Well that's pretty cool, I'm a musician too; I've been playing guitar for over 8yrs. As far as sound goes I was thinking about that Sound Blaster Live 5.1 for computer cause I didn't want to go w/ the cheapest sound card. When I get a new computer built next spring then I'll step up to all the big goodies.
Will that Sound Blaster Live 5.1 work with Windows XP??

SBlive will work fine with your mobo (i've tried) and with windows XP....the only problem MIGHT be when you upgrade......there are some motherboards out there that have difficulties with SBlive.....and its never been the easiest card to set up and maintain. Some others suggest the santa cruz as the better bet, but I havn't tried myself!
I myself am useing the cheapy yamaha, and saving for a decent 8 input sound card to go in my new studio (currently really a cellar....we move in a few months)!:D
