Try changing the connection setting in Internet Explorer options to "never dial". You can still connect manually.

Thinking about it a bit more... the connection box should only appear when something tries to access the internet. Instead of disabling the auto-dialing, you can try to find out what is trying to access the net and change that as necessary.

hmm I agree, but what could it be?

Zonealarm
Kazaa
Getright

spring to mind

Since you're running Zonealarm, you can use that to tell you what's trying to connect. It usually shows the icons of active programs on one of the screens, but since I haven't got it on my current machine I can't check to be more exact.

In case you got Kazaa to load on startup ... it might try to connect right away.
Regarding ZoneAlarm... Just delete all the entries from there and see what is going to happen although it might happen that Kazaa is loaded faster than ZA and you will not notice some events.
There are some issues with the order of loading programs. And it is setable.
Someone correct me on this...
