I am looking to build serveral systems with the SOYO DRAGON PLUS. Unless you guys didn't already know, it comes with the KT-266/a chipset. Along with that I will be using the XP1900. At first glance i was going to start off with 256MB of DDR2100, but then thought about going with DDR2700.
Is is best in regards to over-clocking, to go with the DDR2700 or the DDR2100? It's only slightly more expensive. Even if the board cannot use it, it is supposed to default back to 2100.
Thanks to all..
Peace

well if my mory serves me right, DDR2700 would equal 166mhz ram.
in theory this should help your overclocking efforts, but only if the rest of your system is up to running FSB's that high. Remember anything is only as quick as its slowest compnent.
also, make sure that there arnt any hidden things with this DDR2700 RAM, like it needs higher voltages than normal, inwhich case, you might as well buy DDR2100!
ifyour going for high FSB's, make sure your northbridge is well cooled, and try to get video carda etc that will stand high FSB's as some wont, esp nics.

Wow! thanks. I hadn't thought of that. I am not experienced at OC-ing, and didn't want to go messing with FSB's. The SOYO DRAGON PLUS mboard is already supposed to come with 200/266mhz FSB. It would be a major step for me just to ulock the L1, and modify the multiplier and voltage setttings via the BIOS, although you can alther the FSB there as well.
Anyone have a good link for mod-ding the FSB? Do video card /NIC manufacturers release that kind of information about their bus handlinng capabilities?
hhah i have more where that came from! :D

Hullo again!!
no, the manufactures of card dont let that information out, but some manufactures ain a reputation that their stuff overclocks well and handles FSB's well.
for unlocking your chip, go have a look at www.tomshardware.com, there is a vido there showing you how to do it.
Most motherboard allow you some kind of tweaking in the bios, but it ranges from pratically nill on board by the likes oc PCChips, to virtually evrything being tweakable (multipler (once your unlocked) fsb, memory, voltages you name it)
go have a good read of reviews and stuff before youbuy or make your mind up

if i was going to go with faster ram than the 2100, i would prolly use the corsair 2400.
i'd actually prolly use it anyway.
