Hmmm...
If you don't have ATA-133 support, how can you enable it??

the kg7a has ata133 support and the drive is an ata133 drive. i had it initially on the highpoint and couldn't enable it, or wasn't aware how or where to enable it. it is now on the primary ide chan, since i am using the other drives elsewhere for a couple days.

Hey LC I think you mean KR7A not KG7a because abit does not make a KG7A. So if i am right about which board you mean the primary IDE channels are only ATA-100 because via did not implement ATA-133 in their chipset. ATA-133 is only for the Highpoint RAID. I hope this helped you.

oh yeah, i did say kg when i meant kr. all these k's. i got confused and skipped my typing QA.
:)
yeah, on the raid chan it wasn't seeing it as ata133. on the primary it is ata100 now, but before, it wasn't seeing it as ata133.
it's going to get torn apart in a day when some new stuff arrives. so i'll just carefully reassemble and see what i may have skipped over.

Your drive cable may not be able to support ata133 (due to length, rounded, interference, etc), this might be forcing the speed down.
Check maxtor's website for a drive utility. You may need to enable ATA133 support on the drive via software means. It may be lowered to ATA100 for compatibility issues. It may need human intervention to run at ata133. Look for a utility.
You may also need a BIOS update to support HPT372's ata133 interface.
