We had to reformat/re-install everything on my bros comp. We expected this re-install to take care of a weird little problem with his puter but the problem is still there.

Any idea why his HD light (on case) would flash every couple of seconds when in windows 98? It doesn't do it in bios. I t does it when the computer is idle (not D/L'ing anything). A flashing light would be no problem except for the fact that these flashes synch with little stalls/freezes in gameplay and while watching real player or movies at the beginings of games.

??? anyone...bad hd sectors and/or disks, virus ????

Try windows xp if all else fails, you'll probaly get rid of the glitch and receive a great os all in one shot.

TCFool,

Try going to device manager, and finding your CD drive properties. Turn off "auto insert notification". When on, it looks at your CD drive every few seconds to see if the disk in it has changed.

I am sure somebody will correct me if i am wrong but I think windows does some housekeeping of the system files while no-one is looking. My Pc's occasionally have hard disk activity when it is not currently been used in both win2k and winme, i assume win98 is the same.
