Does anyone know of any motherboard besides the Tyan Tiger or Thunderbird that takes dual Athlon procs? Any experience with dual processors and what kind of performance over single processor? Is it worth the money, or is it just braggin rights? Don't get me wrong, I'm all for bragging rights.

welcome to the board :xwavey:
i'm afraid it is a long shot at the moment... all the major motherboard manufacturers are releasing dual systems soon... abit, asus, epox are all definatly doing them i belive msi have one in the pipeline but i might just be making that up... the new batch of motherboards will be over clockable which is a definate bonus
regarding significant gains.....hummm dunno... never used a dually before... might notice it for seti/genome but i doubt you'd see the difference in games...

Thanks, that's sort of what I thought. The one guy I talked to who had a dually machine said it wasn't much faster, but it was almost "un-bog-downable" (is TOO a word :D ) able to run PhotoShop, watch a DVD and play MP3's all at the same time. So I guess that would be cool, and if everyone is going to make dual proc. mobos, maybe the price will drop some. Again, thanks for the help.

The Quake engine will thread dual processors so any game based on it does show a good improvement from A dually.

Well I'm sitting here, struggling to type at an unfamilar keyboard, because my w2k, 1.2ghz Athlon with 512kb of ram has internet explorer totally siezed up, simply because I am running an intense excel program :(
It will take 3 hours to run and then the machine will come back alive.
A dual cpu system sounds good to me, but this sort of **** would not happen on linux anyway!

Hi
While I agree that os's are not what they should be.
A dual system always seems to run better.
Just got more grunt and I always found working the net was always faster as well.

All right, dually it is. Now, who wants to give me one?:D What, no takers? I guess I'll have to buy one. So, a dual Athlon, GeForce3 Ti 500, 1GB + of RAM, 2x 80 GB Raid 0, some sound card, probably Audigy and a second mortgage. Yup, looking forward to it! ;)

I know I won't regret it, it's trying to convince those other people in the house that a PC needs to be that fast. And face it, it really does!:xjawdrop: I'm sure, food and all that stuff is great, but we're talking raw computing power here!

dual processors is not about speed.
it's about power.Multitasking.You'll run same speed, but twice the applications.
Except for programms that utilize specifically 2 processors. In these programms you will have significant speed gains over the single cpu.

So how about the internnet then ?
It always run's faster on a dual mobo!!!
I have tried it on more than a dozen mobos now and it 's always the same.
You get more than just speed, they are smooth as well as fast.

Yes, sorry, I guess I was in a hurry to congratulate myself on potential dual proc. action :( I realise it's more about capacity and less about speed, though doesn't Windoze XP make use of dual processors?

XP Pro supports Dual Processors, the Home version does not.
