Anyone got an old Celeron or P2/P3 ? , slot or socket I don't mind, for a lower end PC. Anything 400MHz + will do, must be cheap or want to swap for SB Live! value. UK only.

Yeah I know, bit of a long shot on this board ! It's for a charitable cause so no-one will laugh if you admit to having one to get rid of ! :D

Hi,

I still have one PIII 800 Slot 1 CPU with 256K L2 cache.... Are you looking for slot 1 or socket version?? I have this CPU for damn long time..... recently I just put into a system becasue I found a old MSI 810chipset mobo hang there in my garage.:) Actually it works quiet ok even with CS. Of course I also add in a Geforce2 MX400 64MB PCI card:)

Hi Silver,

A slot P3-800 would be fine :), but it sounds like you have made a home for it already !

Actually now I have 2 AMD CPUs and 2 MOBO... that is why I can get rid of the older PIII800 since I have no use of it... But you are at UK.. what to handle the deal??

Well I can make a funds transfer to your account no problem and I guess UPS or DHL can ship it to me, dunno at what cost tho ?, but it's not exactly big or heavy so I'd hope it would be reasonable. First off how much do want for the CPU ? oh and have you got a cooler for it too ? It won't be o/c'd so even the basic Intel supplied one will do.

You guys are making me feel quite poor, with your spare p3 800's and mobos lying about. My main PC is a p3 800 my other is p3 450. I was chuffed to bits now I am just feeling left behind. Cant even afford a decent soundcard still going with the soundblaster 64. None of these fancy new fangled 3-d sounds for me :(

Maybe after xmas It might be time to look for some cheap bits and start off an upgrade.

Swoop,

I think it is better you get it from DATA. I don't like international deal..... Too much trouble....

Hi Bozo

dont feel bad m8 - for years my main PC was a meager PII 350 and it is still working away at the moment :D - and there aint nothing wrong with your sound card - all depends on what ppl are looking to get - never saw the sence myself in using an expensive sound card i still use a sound blaster 16 - if i want good music use the HI-FI not my puter :D - your current set up is good and reliable better will come your way as you can afford to upgrade

Hi,

I would say anything above PIII500 is pretty much good for all sources of works.... Unless you are doing etrememly editing as video or graphic, then you need a faster CPU... I can't really tell the different between PIII800 and my XP1800+...... I mean the regular office work or surfing web... even playing CS... same....

The only different is the benchmark..which mean shXX anyway...

Bad timing, as you know from the other thread One of the PC's is No longer reliable...it is dead...It is an ex pc.. It has ceased to be...:(

oh reason i would like a 3d- soundcard is so i can hear people coming up behind me in games.

Hi,

Well.... Overclock is just a fun thing for me to do. I mean like regular office work or surfing web don't need a fast computer... Unless you are focus on Video stream of animation relates with high resolution graphics.... Faster computer does making different...

For example. I use my current system compare with my older PIII800 system with Geforce2 MX400 64MB PCI on CS. It pretty much feels the same....

Sorry for the late replies, I have been away :p

Silver - no worries about not wanting to do an international deal, it seems parcel companies can't deliver 100 miles let alone 3000 ! BTW I totally agree about CPU speed, I was playing Wolfenstein on a friends P3-800 + GF2Ultra the other day and didn't really notice much difference between his and my XP1800 + Radeon 8500. But if I want I can turn on all the eye candy, FSAA etc in 1280x1024 though :D

Data - cheers for the offer, a P2-400 would be OK for the charitable cause which is - my friends daughter, Alice, has cerebal palsy and she has just started to attend special school where they have a PC and some custom peripherals for the kids to interact with the computer. My friend would like to duplicate this set up for Alice, as she responds very well to this and is helping her co-ordination and visual recognition, at home. I have put all my spares and a few others from friends together for a PC for her, just lacking a CPU now !!! The software they use is Win95 based so anything which'll drive 95 well would be fine, the 400+ request was due to the ATi all-in-wonder I am giving away so she can watch Teletubbies in her room !

very good cause, i wish that i had something to spare.
perhaps one day, a DC project could help to find a cure for what ails her as well.
if only we could solve all our problems by throwing cpu cycles at them!

silversurfer i definatly understand what your saying... for internet usage... w mp3's a P200 w/64 mb.i s all you need ... even a p166
web browsing .. cant even tell the difference.
