View Full Version : A sad tale

Being a very keen chess player (an understatement) I thought I would share this sad tale with you.
Two guys are playing five minute speed chess outside a pub. They are playing first to win 10 games wins a £5 bet. The score is 9-9 and in the final game both players are down to their last 30 seconds. One of the players has checkmate in 3 moves and is about to play the winning move when suddenly a funeral procession drives past, so he stands up and bows his head till the hearse passes. He loses the game on time and hands over the £5. "Hey" said the winner "I can't take this money, I saw what you did, you could have checkmated me in 3 moves but instead you paid your respects and lost the game on time" "It's the least I could do" said the loser "WE HAD BEEN MARRIED 15 YEARS" :D :D

wish i could play chess better
i dont play bad but not good either
and i have noticed that sometimes i play better with a timer (like 7,8,9,10 min ) than without timer !
and sometimes not! :D

I wonder if we could arrange some games ?
I am an unranked player, but did have a bit of potential once ;)
it would make a change from CounterStrike!
I fall into the Leninist camp of chess :D

the best of course would be to arrange meetings
but that is impractical for everybody due to distances countries time etc
(i regret to admit that) almost all of the games of chess i have played, were in the Yahoo games section....
its very easy for those of u who are not familiar
u just make an account (with it u can chat, have mail, or play games), log in ,go to the games section select chess , then select a chess room, (there are many) and that's it
u can play without timers or with whatever time limit you want
(fast games r not for for slow connections due to lag)
i think its of the best places to play chess easily
i go there from time to time (but its been sometime since the last)

Whenever I play chess I seem to believe there is a 'joker' card that allows me two moves to the oppositions 1. Obviously by the time I realise this doesn't exists I'm in big doo doo. :)
So as such I'm a pretty bad chess player.

I am sure BIGBEN will be superior, I am the sort of player who was top of the local school in chess, played occasionaly for the school (the school was not at all serious about chess) and won those games, when I play on yahoo I have also tended to win....
but I am under no delusions, I have played several games with ranked players and lost every single time, there are no prisoners in chess, once beyond the beginners level of mistakes being made, the superior player will win every time.
