The University of Houston is looking to create its own super-computing equivalent and incorporate public volunteer computing on a variety of science applications. Current project is to simulate macromolecular interactions in a living cell. Using multi-scaled models we are assessing meaningful biopolymer dynamics that spans several orders of magnitude in time and space.
This is an alpha project, and seems to be struggling at the moment. Not sure about stats.
