Can a non overclocked celeron such as mine, work fine without a fan on the heatsink,?

Hi Therion,

assuming your celery is the olde slot style then the answer is yes----BUT

Compaq H.P. and other big names used to build machines with celerys and even PIIs withoutfans on the heatsink BUT they used big old heatsinks !

My guess is that a heatsink that's meant to have a fan wouldn't be much good without one but if you get a big heatsing you won't need the fan.

VOS 32 maybe ?????

cheers

Dave.

Bit of a surprise that you even asked:D
If you fit a passive heatsink big enough it will work.
A lot of old stuff ran without fan's, but they did tend to run hot.
Best advise i can give is give it away or sell it:D
Time to move on.

actually the fan is making weird noises and is probably dying out, but it would be a pain for me right now to go out looking for celeron fans and stuff :D so i want to know it it really needs it :D

Hi I don't know what it is, but if it has a fan fitted it will not be up to the job of running without it.
If you ever see a passive heatsink you will know what I mean, they are large, I have some here.
I did suspect it was slot type,How does it fit ?
I may have 1 here I can send you.

you may be just fine, running w/o a fan on your processor. try this.
run your rig and under full load disconnect fan too see how high your temp goes... my cel 2 will run up to 52c before it crashes... i would assume an older cel would probably beable to run hotter even. if it is far too inconvenient for you to find a new celey fan that use an older case fan form a dx-33 or the likes... a fan is a fan.
be creative and tape it aimed at the proc.
worked for me.
if you cant Duck it %uck it.
