Hi just wondering if anybody knew how to fix this problem, every time I hit the sleep button the system goes to a black screen and locks up. Any ideas on why!

Erm... you system is just doing what you told it to do - go to sleep!
This is a lower power mode you can use instead of turning it off completely. To wake it up, try pressing the space bar or return. Can't remember as I never use it! It should return quite quickly, much faster than normal booting.
Instead of turning my PCs off, I just leave my PCs on all the time running various distributed computing projects. Why not pop into the seti or genome/folding forums ;)

also you can restart pc from sleep mode by hitting the power button then the pc boots in like 5 seconds..
i used to used STR (suspend to ram) but since i got USB mouse it doesn't work for me anymore.. if you're using a usb mouse then this may be why you're locking up.
one way to test is put a ps2 adaptor on your mouse and hook it up like that.. then try the power features.. if ya get back up no problemo.. then ya know USB is the culprit.

My mouse did go threw the usb so switched to the Ps2 adapter and I still have the same problem. And when I mean the computer locks up I mean it I get no response at all. Threw the keyboard, mouse or the power switch. I have to totally power down and reboot. Any other ideas on what might be causing this problem. Thanx guys.

Lemme dust off my ol brains cells and take the long way around...
First off (Windows) "Power Management" go in there and verify your settings are correct for your needs.. you can change standby..suspend.. sleep there so pay careful attention..
Second.. msconfig / startup tab.. verify that you have the 2 LoadPowerProfile lines enabled (checkmarked) Assuming you are running win98 or whatever..
Third.. in you bios.. verify the power management settings there..
you should disable any powerdowns (ie hdd power down, doze mode, ..etc..) let windows handle it all..
also in there try setting the video off option to > always on.
Under wakeup events.. set everything to off, none or n/a (whichever applies)
set primary intr to off or disable..
if doing this gets ya back up and going then you can go back in there and start playing around in the irq activity to see if you can get mouse , keyboard or whatever to wakeup the system..for now though settly with power switch.. this though is for standby mode.. sleep should be just whack keyboard or mouse..
I know the usb mouse messed me up for the standby mode and also running some versions of nvidia's det drivers.. using my Hercules drivers never failed me..
so, ya may wanna consider this too..
Sleep mode should be the easiest to get going and the easiest to get running.. the standby and hibernation are a bit more difficult..

i've already tried nearly everything under win2k same mobo and according to what i've been told is just a question related with the highpoint raid controller (just supposing you're using raid 0 like i do). As a matter of fact (tho different systems) trying to suspend from a single disk with xp on it works fine, while trying to do so from the raid array absolutely always leads to hangup

well i do use raid-0 and here's an update fer ya, i now can do the suspend to ram (str) and it works great now.
Although, i dunno if it's thankz to my updateing to newest via 4 in 1's or if it's because i added my usb scanner to the second usb port.
I do now that via specifically states that the new 4 in 1's (v.435) patch ACPI so, i'm leaning more towards this reason.
My mouse is still on the 1rst usb port.
my system now boots in 14 seconds :)

I've also updated my via drivers and still the same, I'm thinking about updateing the hpt bios drivers see if that works. I'll try some other things that I'm thinking of. It's probably this stupid Logitech wireless keyboard & mouse.
