i just install a new maxtor dx540 160 gig. had to partition into 2 for win2k to be able to use it.

copy massive files (2gig and up) will take a while due to 5400 rpm but it seemed that it is faster than the old types (ata 133).

the free pci ata 133 card drivers had to be installed first in win2k without the drive hooked up, then format & partition with maxblast.

can't seem to hear any noise because of tons of case fans are running. not much heat at all. (i had to install the thing on the floor of my case)

overall satisfied with the drive.

Everyone duck!!! I am confused again!!! I was just wondering, was that a typo or did someone say they had a 5400 rpm HD that was an ATA 133? Why does that not sound right? I thought that all drives ATA 100 and up were 7200 rpm? I am probably wrong...but confusion will do that to me. :0)

you read correctly. it is a 5400 rpm ata 133 drive.

yep and i got myself one for $300 and it cam with its own ide cars... a promise 2 channel ide... anyone know if that particular card is good?

the hard drive took forever to format must have been over an hour.... i watched enterprise while it did its thing... but i must say... drive f: with 152GB free does put a smile on my face...
hasnt givin me any problems... besides the 5400rpm failure of it... but thats a good thing as it will promote longevity... which this drive will need cause even by tommorows standards it will be recognized as huge.
