Hello, new to this forum and though maybe you all may have a different take on this setup.

I am stuck at 1693mhz at 154 FSB. I raise the FSB to 155 and errors galore, but it runs SETI stable at 154FSB.

SETI times are 3hrs 48mins at this setting. Trying for 3hrs 45mins average so I can get it up to 7units per 24hours on this system.

Epox 8K7A+
T-Bird1400@1693
Crucial DDR
Vcore 2.05
DDR Vcore 2.9
mem timings 8-8-8-2-6-2-2

Any ideas???

Thanks.

well it looks like your allready an experienced clocker....

what are your temps like? also what different combinations have you tried? you need to work on a steady process of elimination to find your weak point and eliminate it.

set fsb to 133 and use multiplier to take the chip as high as it will go that eliminates the chip. next remove any soundcards, lan cards, modems especially anything isa and up the FSB again. take a look at cooling the northbridge, reducing memory timings etc etc etc

it's just a long process of elimination really

Hi Jaydee116,

I also have the 1.4 Birdy and I run SETI around the clock, in fact, I have 345 days and counting.

I don't know much bout your board, but I understand it is a pretty good one.

I have water cooling, and I can't tell from your stats what kind of cooling you have.

If you have air, then going to water will certainly put you over the mark.

Since I replaced my MSI K7T Turbo-R with this current MSI K7T266 Pro-RU, I have not had much time to play. Perhaps we both can go much higher with a little playing.

Good luck, and think about water for better scores........You can buy kits, or go much cheaper, and build your own cooler.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Ok more in detail:

CPU temp 26C (Custom water cooled)
System temp 17C

I have the Multi at 11X and the FSB at 154. memory timmings are 8-8-8-2-6-2-2.

AGP Rage vid card will handle 165+FSB

Linksy NIC will also handle 165+FSB

No other cards, don't even have an ISA slot on this one.:D

FSB is my main concern as SETI loved higher FSB and being thats all this system will do is crunch SETI I guess that is what I will concentrate on. I am fairly sure i can lower the mem timings but it may not benifit if it lowers mem speed and the overall MHZ dosn't pick up the slack.

I tried 2.10 and 2.15 Vcore but it will not bootup.

Also raised the DD Vcore to 2.9 but dosn't help.

I may just be maxed out but i would like about 3 more minuits knocked of my SETI time.:D

I also had a MSI K7T Turbo-R for a while. Was a decent board. I plan on building an Epox Duelly when ever they come out. :D

Hi again,

I run 12 @ 142 for my 1704.

I tried to run at a lower multiplier and had problems with crashing a lot.

SO, I raised the multiplier and found no noticible drop in performance.

Just a thought.

PS.......I run a unit about every six hours.

Just a thought. I might try that and spped up the mem timmings. My main goal is to get the most SET crunchin power i can out of it and I need maximum memory speed for that.

Its really an interesting battle with the DDR timings/FSB/Multi. You can raise the FSB pretty high but memory timings need be slower to get a high FSB in turn it slows your mem speed but increases your overall MHZ but does no good for SETI as SETI seems to like high memory speed.

I am going to try that setting there and increase the mem timings. Will post back in a few.

Well here it goes:

11X 154FSB 1693mhz 8-8-8-2-6-2-2 ALU/714 FPU/922

That was my setting before I started the tests.

10X 155FSB 1628mhz 8-8-6-2-4-2-2 ALU/705 FPU/950

9.5X 160FSB 1520mhz 8-8-6-2-4-2-2 ALU/724 FPU/974
9.5X 161FSB "---------------------------" NO POST

11X 133FSB 1466mhz AUTO mem timings ALU/581 FPU/727
11X 133FSB 1466mhz 8-8-6-2-2-2-2 ALU/623 FPU/792

11.5X 150FSB 1725mhz 8-8-6-2-4-2-2 NO POST
"-----" 149FSB 1714mhz "---------------" NO POST
"-----" 148FSB 1702mhz "---------------" NO POST
"-----" 147FSB 1691mhz "---------------" NO POST

12X 133FSB 1600mhz 8-8-6-2-2-2-2 ALU/626 FPU/802
12X 140FSB 1680mhz 8-8-6-2-2-2-2 ALU/660 FPU/843
12X 145FSB 1740mhz 8-8-6-2-2-2-2 NO POST
12X 142FSB 1704mhz 8-8-6-2-2-2-2 NO POST
"-------------------------" 8-8-6-2-4-2-2 NO POST
"-------------------------" 8-8-6-2-6-2-2 NO POST
"-------------------------" 8-8-7-2-6-2-2 NO POST
12X 141FSB 1692mhz 8-8-7-6-2-2-2 ALU/656 FPU/852
"-------------------------" 8-8-6-2-4-2-2 ALU/664 FPU/850

Going to run SETI a few units at this speed( 9.5X 160FSB 1520mhz 8-8-6-2-4-2-2 ALU/724 FPU/974 ) and see how less mhz and higher mem scores effects SETI.

WOW..It's almost like that Processor has it's mind set on NOT going over 1700...wierd... Keep trying.

Yeah shes being a bitch!!!:D I am starting to think it maybe a power supply problem though as it is only a Antec PP-303X 300watt. I am actually suprised it got me this far. I ordered another 8K7A+ today and will look for a 350-450watt for that one.

how long has it been burning in at 1693mhz???

Hmmm i get around 3:30min stock with my xp... (1533mhz)
try using setidriver it boosted my speed about %15 and also try using ramdrive... "another %10 increase"

I setup another system a few weeks ago with another Epox 8K7A+ and an XP1600+. The XP kicks the life out if the T-Bird!!!! With the T-Bird1400@1660mhz the XP at STOCK settings is 5 mins slower!!!! I ahve the XPat 1525mhz right now and it crunches 1 about every 3 1/2 hrs!!! XP rocks!!!
