DCEZ is a distributed computing infrastructure modeled after the approach used by Boinc, which is the software used by the SETI@home project. It is intended to be useful to individuals, small user groups and in pedagogical settings to allow exploration of distributed computing technology with a minimum of effort. The target applications for DCEZ are small to moderate computationally intensive problems such as Monte Carlo simulations, cryptography applications, numerical approximations and computer animation.

DCEZ was designed to be simple to set up and use, and to perform distributed computing with a minimum of infrastructure. Both the client and server elements of the system run in a Windows (XP and 2000) environment. The executables are of modest size. Both executables are supplied with an installation program. The client program is a screensaver program that displays a bitmap graphic and is configured through the use of a configuration menu. The server program uses a configuration file to specify parameters and tune the server environment.

DCEZ was developed and the first release was made in March, 2006. Development will with new releases planned about once a year as long as there is interest in the project.
