I couldn't find a thread on this BOINC project. It is a new mathematics project, just gone from alpha to beta in very quick time and is now open to anyone for account creation.
If there is already a thread about this and I missed it, my apologies. I'm a noob here. :rolleyes:

ABC@Home has just moved into stable mode http://abcathome.com (http://abcathome.com). ABC@Home Beta is now the permanent beta project.
What is ABC@home?
ABC@home is a distributed computing project enabling a great search for so called abc-triples. The project is comparable in a way to GIMPS, another mathematical project. These abc-triples are positive integers a,b,c such that a+b=c, a < b < c, a,b,c have no common divisors and c > rad(abc), the so-called radical of abc. The ABC conjecture says that there are only finitely many a,b,c such that log(c)/log(rad(abc)) > h for any real h > 1. The ABC conjecture is currently one of the greatest open problems in mathematics. If it is proven to be true, a lot of other open problems can be answered directly from it. More information can be found here (http://www.math.leidenuniv.nl/~desmit/ic/abc/fritsABCpresentation.pdf).
Who is involved?
The Mathematical Institute of Leiden University (http://www.math.leidenuniv.nl/) together with Kennislink (http://www.kennislink.nl/), a dutch institute to promote science. The science group that constructed a new algorithm to find these abc-triples consists of prof. HW. Lenstra jr, dr. B. de Smit, drs. WJ. Palenstijn. Lenstra and de Smit previously worked on completing a lithograph of Escher (http://escherdroste.math.leidenuniv.nl/).
ABC@home is completely non-profit and only for educational purposes.

What kind of time frame is needed to get this on the vault list? It seems to be getting a fairly good rate of participation.

Yeah, and Team Haiku is currently whomping :D - of course, that's only till Beyond shuts his farm down ;)
Edit: I guess the new project list isn't necessary the place for smack talk eh?
In any case, I have been hearing great things about this project - and their 64-bit client is currently buggy. But I hear it will definitely rule over the 32-bit clients.

We have to get people who run the project to reply to this thread, and post about how the project runs, up's, down's etc..
So invite you team mates over and let us know...
Project addition rules as follows
.
Notification: Somebody points out a project(anyone);
Research: read on the forum/www and Post about it;
Report: This is where The Vault admin share information;
Watch List: add it to the watch list sticky thread in the DC-Vault Forum(Vault Admin);
Permission: Ask the Project Administration if they see any problems with the project beening added to the DC-Vault(Vault Admin);
Testing Phase: Multiple people from multiple teams test for a week to few weeks;
Addison: If the project is suitable it will be added when time allows.

Thanks, I'm just a small pebble in a large rock pile. Getting people to run a new project is tough, especially one not in the vault:)
I have run the beta and the transition to "stable" has been smooth. The administrator of the project has spent a lot of time the last several days, immediately dealing with all glitches. I have had no failed units, the credit seems fair[ and the administrator is sensitive to this area], all areas of the site work:) and the server has been reliable.
A smooth running project that should draw a good crowd, I hope:D

Small Pebble or large rock,if ya find it hard to get crunchers on a new project because it's not in the Vault, then tell them this will help get it in the Vault :D... if you can ask some of your team mates to pop by, that would be great

I'm just a pebble too and have run this project in both Beta and now "stable".
The project admin (Hendrik) is very responsive and it all appears to be running smoothly.
Work units are currently quite variable in run-time (from seconds to hours) but they do checkpoint and I haven't had one crash or go "invalid" yet.
They have some form of fixed credit, i.e. it's assigned by the server and does not rely on the flawed BOINC Benchmark system at the participants end, so the competition is not tainted by cheaters.
It would fit into the "Mathematical projects" category.

I don't know what a pebble is... :confused:
But I had it running on beta with no problem.
This one looks OK for me. :thumbsup:
And it does match the hidden rule :
"TNT must be better than Ninja on this project to have it added to the Vault" :D

I have not seen this kind of interest/dedication in any other project that I have run.

Things have been rock solid so far with ABC@Home. For a new "just-out-of-beta" project, I'm finding it to be a pleasure to work on!
The 64-bit client promises to be super-efficient - which means this project will eek the most out of 64-bit OSes/processors once the client leaves beta. Correct me if I'm wrong, but this will be one of the only projects that has a distinct 64-bit advantage.
I have exchanged some emails with Beyond (#1 single cruncher on the project thus far) and he has been very positive about this project.

Have found this project very stable, an ease to work with, and enjoyable to follow with it having fairly short work units. Am waiting on the 64bit beta to show how important it'll be for all dc-vault peeps with that arch.

I joined the ABC@Home a week ago and turned in 66 results without any problems. Their website has been fast and easy to use. I now will be going back to working on projects in the DC vault. Hopefully this one will be there some day.

I have not had any issues with the project or the site. The administrator is very responsive to problems and has dealt with them promptly.
I just can't seem to get enough power on the project to go to the top:D
but, I'm trying:)

No worries... I've had one work unit that was invalid after 8 hours of crunching on a fast comp. I agree the admin (Hendrik) is very responsive - I sometimes wonder if he ever sleeps :D
My team probably won't be able to get to #1 (we were there briefly when the project first went to stable and I was the #1 cruncher in the world for maybe an hour) but we'll see what we can do.

That had occurred to me but, I don't remember it being forewarned. I suspect server failure. The beta site is down as well. I don't know about their Dutch sister site as I did not bookmark it:(
BOINC has it dead in the water:(
