Hi,

I've just upgraded DirectX from v8 to 8.1.

After shutting it all down and rebooting I decided to run 3Dmark2001 to see if there was any performance gain.

All I got was a dialogue box telling me that my "adapter needs to be directX8 compatible"??????

The thing ran fine before so what's up? Do I try

1. uninstalling and then reinstalling the drivers (21.85 - ME)
2. trying another flavour of 21.xx
3. uninstalling 8.1 and going back to 8
4. is there a patch available

Hi,

3DMax2001 is compatible to DX8.1. I am running OS WinXP, it came with DX 8.1 and I have no problem running 3DMax2001.

Maybe try to reinstall DX8.1 again see if it help.

OK, I've tried
1. uninstalling and then reinstalling the drivers (21.85 - ME)
I used Detonator Destroyer to remove all of the old files and rebooted.

No go.

I've run the Diagnostic DirectX Tool's Direct3D test with the result

D3D8 Test Result: Failure at step 5 (GetDeviceCaps): HRESULT = 0x8876086a (3D not available)

Thanks for the advice, Silversaver. I'm now busy downloading DirectX 8.1 again (I installed it last time using Windows Update) and trying a reinstall.

I'll keep you posted.

Update.

DirectX 8.1 reinstalled. Same as.

Tried the official 21.85 Powercolor Drivers. No go.

So is it the Hardware? I thought that the GF2 Pro DDRs were DX8 compatible. At least mine was until I tried DX8.1

Now what shall I try? I really don't fancy a rebuild.

I've completed a format of the HDD following installing a RAID stripe array.

The issue has now disappeared so I can only assume that it was a conflict from installing DirectX 8.1 over the previous version, or a remnant left over from an earlier Nvidia driver.

Thanks for all the help though, guys. :) :) :)
