Could we have a previsional calendar about when new projects will join the Vault ?
If they have a quarantaine delay, or if they don't yet match the rules (and which rules)...
Once more : thanks for your job !

Nice Idea but when a project come up, we decide and Nano acts pretty much straight away, and then posts when it's happened..

I don't this can be considered ready, since it uses BOINC version 4. Most people have upgraded to version 5 by now, as that is the current version. Berkeley stopped working on 4 ages ago and there are some unresolved issues. It also semi-limits the userbase, which would be against your criteria for inclusion.
NeoGen
17th March 2006, 12:30 PM
In my oppinion it would only be limiting the userbase if there was some restriction on getting the software or creating accounts. The software is there and account creation is open so I think that argument can't be applied here.
One factor that can "semi-limit" a project's userbase is the complexity of use of the client software. Maths projects like for example SOB Sieve or PSP Sieve can be a bit complex to run, but then again that is only a psychological barrier, because anyone who has the patience to read the FAQ's and/or post asking help is perfectly able to run the projects.
And boinc 4 has as little (or as much) of complex as boinc 5, so it can't be pointed by that either...
And as a final note, the japs are smarter than us! Not only the Tanpaku devs as well as the Cell Computing devs who also use boinc v4. The last version of the v4 boinc platform had maybe a primitive scheduler but otherwise was rock solid stable, yet people jumped ship instantly when v5 came out, flashing its brand new functionalities, but underneath full of bugs and problems of all sorts, some of which are still being corrected today... go figure...

I noticed that Tanpaku's message boards are now open. But the fellows behind the project rarely appear there...

Tanpaku looks working fine.
And the "It's only Boinc V4 - it's not ready" is strange for me.
Most projects in the Vault don't run Boinc V5.
It's DC-Vault stats, not Boinc stats !

The version has nothing to do with it..
We'll start looking into it...
Thanks Toutouf
"TANPAKU" is the project that is aiming at attacking "protein structure prediction" problem by using "distributed computing" method. This project is developed in collaboration with Yamato lab.(in the Department of Biological Science and Technology) and Takeda lab.(in the Department of Information Sciences) groups at Tokyo University of Science. Now, the project finished a preliminary test within our university and it is open for public volunteers.

We will look into it
but If you follow the step for addition (http://www.team-ninja.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=38400), that might put you on the right track. Still havent got any reports from people crunching it

Testing Phase: Multiple people from multiple teams test for a week to few weeks
Toutouf from Team-TNT says :
http://issofty17.is.noda.tus.ac.jp/show_user.php?userid=338
- Member since : 20 Apr 2006 (4 weeks ago).
- No problem to create team.
- Ran on Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz / Microsoft Windows XP
Home Edition, Service Pack 2
- No problem to get work.
- Don't remember any "server down"...
- Note that deadlines are very short on this project. Deadline = a couple hours. Tiny units (about 10 minutes). => Permanent internet connection needed.
- Except it only goes on old Boinc V4, I can't see anything bad on this project. But as I wrote before, many other projects are not running on Boinc V5 (SoB, Majestic-12, Eon, Grid, ... :D ).
Little team "AMD Users" is #8 of project. They certainly have more experience than I do.
May I suppose many other teams don't run it because "not in the Vault" ?
Sorry if nobody else posts about.
May be you have to add project, and wait people running on it, or shouting they don't like it... :(

My take on the "Not Boinc 5" thing is that it's a problem because it conflicts with other boinc projects, not just that it doesn't run Boinc 5.
You're right that M12 doesn't run Boinc5, but M12 doesn't prevent you from installing Boinc5 either. A project that only runs Boinc4 and thus blocks you from using Boinc5 is not cool.
(unless it's possible to run both 4 and 5 on the same machine? would be weird)
Toutouf
12th May 2006, 09:32 PM
Projects that support Boinc 5 can be run with Boinc 4, don't them ?
I mean running Boinc 4 prevents running Boinc 5, but doesn't prevent you from running multiple Boinc projects.
NeoGen
13th May 2006, 04:43 AM
Some boinc projects enforce v5, but most of them still allow running on v4.

Like I said before it doesn't matter which BOINC version a project runs with..

It's running real fine !

I read stats here :
http://issofty17.is.noda.tus.ac.jp/top_teams.php?sort_by=total_credit
But you certainly mean they don't provide sql or txt files to make your own stats.
I understand.
Then no Tanpaku on the Vault this week... :sigh:
PS : How is it my sig is now on all my new posts on this forum ? It used to be only once per topic !
