Is this another project like majectic-12, where you have to be connected all the time???

NeoGen
4th March 2006, 10:29 AM
Yes. It's a project to verify the links on the Red Library database for 404's. Altough it does it pretty calmly, only a few every 5 minutes, it needs to be connected.

Project added :D

I have also added the obvious teams, those project team names which match the Vault team names :)

Now there are 16.. and the Vault is Recording all 16 Teams

Maybe you guys ought to ask the project managers if they can handle the increased load. It doesn't look like this project was ready or maybe even needed this much power thrown at it.

edit: looks like its finally spitting out WUs again.

I sure am :(

from the DLV forums:

I guess it's just because we have underestimated the number of users for the 'first version' of DLV and our server can't handle all the request fast enough.

But you just have to wait a little bit as we're working on this problem. And if everything goes as planned the new client (out soon) will reduce the serverload a lot. And it also reduce the users traffic a bit more too.

All 3 clients are now receiving data - perhaps it was just a bottleneck

Well i'm sorry but one thing you cant blame us for is putting a project into the DC Vault and then complaining about connection issues.... any DC project out there should phear the DC Vault! ;)

If a project isn't ready for an onslaught of users, then it shouldn't be put in the vault. It's pretty much the same effect as slashdotting a little website.

One of the rules should be the project should have the infrastructure to handle a decent size group of crunchers.

I'm not saying pull this project. Just something to think about in the future.

Can't see a project coming along and saying "don't join us, we can't handle the workload" :D

If that were so you'd have pulled grid 6 months ago

After all... look how long Seti classic lasted - despite the ubiquitous Berkely outages :D

But then again BOINC isn't much better, but lets not get started about down projects(D2oL :( )...

I have to say this project is a good one to run.. Hint..Hint :D

NO cpu time at all.. I cant believe it.
Same as DIMES, nothing, zip

Well as I explained to your twin brother ;) :p there is no way of being sure a project is fit on the infrastructure side until you see what happens after adding it to the Vault :)

We cant test the projects capacity to cope with strain unless there is a big number of simultaneous crunchers working on it (i.e. AFTER the project is added to the Vault)...

We are already discussing means to avoid this in the future but keep suggestions coming as to how one could achieve this goal.

How about volunteer vault "beta testers" from the various teams?
Together we could form a single temporary large team to test a given project out.....then join our own various teams if/when project deemed suitable?

Just a thought.

The easiest thing to do is look at what happened with this project. Get an estimate of the number of users and systems that were added to it. With the next project that comes along contact the guys running it and ask them if they think they can deal with the load. Let them tell you if they think it can deal with the /. effect.

After the discovery of all these projects when the DC Vault was concieved, the wall packed up and left..

I've regressed to a corner and crunching only SETI mostly. I'm in therapy though :kukoo:
