Apologies if this has been asked before - can't find anything though. This is a BOINC project that is issuing work again - will it be included in the Vault?

We checked it out before going live with the Vault and this put us off:
Pirates@Home is an ongoing test of BOINC, the Berkeley Open Infrastructure for Network Computing. Pirates@Home is currently being used to test BOINC's forum software for possible use by another project, Interactions in Understanding the Universe. At present Pirates@Home is not doing any real scientific computation, we are just having fun with BOINC.
In other words its a waste of resources, electricity and money :)

Rag, don't base yourself on that argument for not including Pirates@Home, unless you're prepared to defend why Seti and Primegrid are included.

PrimeGrid is a project for factoring the number in the RSA Factoring Challenge, and also to test PerlBOINC.
and why is there any debate about SETI? we all know what it does.

Oh, I do :)
At least Seti does _something_ whether you question its validity or not, whereas Pirates@home states for itself it does _nothing_ except generate stats.

The current work being done, according to the P@H forums, does not include very much BOINC work. So, at the moment, it cannot be considered IMHO

Fun is good, but I would agree it's not for the Vault - stats for the sake of it is a waste of time
Thanks for the answers :D

Ah... yes, now that I re-read the thread from top to bottom, I see what you mean. Indeed I deviated to the validity part, and not to what it actually does. (or tries to)
It was because you said it was a waste of resources, electricity and money, and that triggered my mind to seti and primegrid.
Those two will never hit their objective, using the means that they're using at least, so as you said it is a "waste of resources, electricity and money".
Altough I open an exception to the validity of Primegrid. Putting aside the RSA objective, Primegrid is mainly a test for PerlBoinc.
And from that point of view PrimeGrid is exactly the same as Pirates@Home, a test project.
But heck... I really don't know why we are all around this! lol. Pirates could not be included in the stats for one simple reason, it breaks one of the rules of acceptance. Account creation isn't free! (You gotta have an invitation code)

The invitation code is posted on their message boards - I'd say that was free . . . .

I believe that might be just for now, while they're testing the thing.
Most likely they're gonna make it a treasure hunt for those who want to get in the project! Maybe just supplying a tip or two on where it can be found.
That would be fun! lol
