thanks for the welcome NVM
I am giving it a try at the moment, However as my ISP limits how much I can download I am keeping a close eye on how much bandwith it chews through.
If its mostly uploading then its not a problem. However if its downloads then its a problem.

Nah..only running it on 1 puter so far ;)
Not sure how it'd handle 2 instances on a multicore computer?

i've been running 7 machines 24/7 for a couple weeks now and all i know is my daily average total.(just added the seventh a few days ago)
http://stats.free-dc.org/new/userstats.php?proj=dimes&name=NorthVanMike
i did notice though that this project treats machines quite equally. my 1700+ cpu is doing pretty good against the Bartons, and my bartender's Celeron is keeping up well also.

points are now credited to the team totals..:)
Ragnarog
8th January 2006, 06:08 PM
Not that its a lot of points but hey, everything counts :)
I installed Dimes on my laptop and it totally refuses to connect to the server. It says I need to check the proxy (dont have one) or the internet connection (works for everything else)
Its on the same router as this machine where its got no probs at all...

So that really answers my question.
DIMES does require a perm connect to the net

Please no laughing !:D
I added DIMES to my AMD 233, yesterday evening. It works !!
Results seem on par with my Celeron 1.0
This project doesn't need alot of horsepower to run.
BTW the AMD 233 is still running WCG as well.:)
I just don't have the heart to shut it down, It was the first pc that I built from scratch!

Dimes takes about 0.01% cpu power as all it does (as long as you keep the window closed) is to ping and traceroute IP's.
It can be added safely to any crunchers!

it seems that Dimes runs the same speed on all my computers. i'm going to set up a couple of smaller machines and see how they do. if they run just as fast, bonus!

Dimes being network based, the cpu has little bearing :)
My 800 Duron keeps up with my 2.4 Athlon :D

I added another PC to this project.. yep I'm talking Celeron power!:)
However, it wasn't enough to hold off the charge by Hogward! Nice going dude!
I also happened to notice that Sir Nano has added some firepower, and now has a fleet of 15 PCs on Dimes! Cool !:D
Team Ninja is now in 47th place!! Way to go all!!

 Celeron power... :rolling:

Farley,
I forgot to mention, that Celeron operates at a Full 500MHz!:p
It joins my DIMES Fleet consisting of a INTEL Celeron 1.0 Ghz, OVERCLOCKED to 1.120 GHZ !!! as well as my Old trusty AMD K6 233 MHz GAMING RIG ( you should see it play Free Cell )!
In reserve, I have another Celeron 633Mhz machine. It just needs a new power supply. It's just a matter of time until that baby joins the Fleet, in my Garage.
